It's a beautiful specimen of a very rare machine... I must say, it takes a special kind of cluelessness to not realize that the curved end doesn't go into the motor unit...

 

I used to have one this nice, once upon a time. Actually, I've had several of them come and go over the years. When I was a little boy, my paternal grandmother had one that she kept in the original box in a corner of her spare bedroom. Of course, I was absolutely fascinated by it and hauled it out to use it every time we visited.
