Does anyone have experience with the Maytag 1200? I just ordered one. I have wanted a tandem air vacuum for quite a while. I feel it is the best of both worlds. I have a Kirby Diamond Edition that cleans carpets well but isn't great on hard floors, is terrible at filtration, and has a poor attachment system. I also own a Sebo D4 Premium which I really like but I am not sure it agitates or has the airflow of the Kirby. I am hoping the Maytag can bridge the gap. Any thoughts?

David

The Maytag M1200 is an awesome vacuum. Set the carpet height adjustor correctly and you should LOVE your new machine. The HEPA bags hold a lot of dirt. Wait for the full bag light on the nozzle, to come ON before changing. The HEPA exhaust filter should last for several years, as it doesn't have to take any dirt - on carbon residue from the motor's carbon brushes. I sell a ton of that model at the Outlet Store and everyone seems quite happy with them.

Kirby filtration

Not sure what's going on with your Diamond Edition to make it have terrible filtration. I own almost every Kirby G model there is, and they have excellent filtration when fitted with cloth HEPA bags. I always wash my bags by hand in cold water and fragrance free laudry soap, and their filtration is amazing.

I sell those Maytag models as well, they are unbelievable machines. I would take it anyday over a Sebo or a Kirby.

I also agree with you about your thoughts on the Kirby. I'm not a fan of the attachments, I'm also not a fan of the weight on the machine, and the filtration on the Kirby is not for me.

Kirby Filtration

The Kirby doesn't filter fine particles. All it has as a filter is the bag. That holds on to large dust but small dust goes right through it. I have allergies and I get a headache and sneeze every time I use the Kirby. I have the clot bags as well. It also isn't a sealed system and leaks dust from multiple points. Kirbys have never been known for their filtration. It certainly isn't certified for allergies like the Sebo or Miele, for example.

Kirby filtration?? Check the gaskets on the emptor-are they worn or missing?Same with the gaskets in the intake side of the motor unit.Any small holes in the outer bag-Are the disposable bags put in correctly-I have found my Kirbys to be one of the better filtration uprights.Have confirmed this with my IQair particle counter.Hold the sensor at various parts of the outer bag-no problems. The Kirby bags come in other filtration grades.Try the Allergen Plus bags-these should make a difference.

Maytag 1200-the Simplicity dealer here hasn't ordered any of these-they are similar to the Simplicity and Riccar tandem air machines.Their names aren't on the tip of my mind right now.Still would like the Maytag-its a striking looking machine!Maybe I will have the place here order one for me.The bags in the Tacony tandem air machines may look small-but the tandem air system packs them pretty tight-like bricks when you change them.

Allergies

I too suffer from extremely bad allergies, and I'm unable to use a vintage machine, shakeout bag or paper, without sneezing violently. I just bought a pack of Kirby Ultimate HEPA bags, and and the filtration is superior. I don't think I've sneezed a single time while using them. Plus, the Carpet and Rug Institute awarded the Kirby a Gold seal of approval for filtration. I agree with Tolivac, if you're having problems with your machine leaking fine dust, check all the connection points, seal the fan chamber, check for holes in the fill tube, and wash the outer bag.

Again-I used my Particle Scan tester on my Kirby-held the sense tube against parts of the bag with the Allergen Plus bag in the main bag-and the inner bag is about half full-the meter read Zero.So the Kirby filtration is doing its job-excellent for a soft bag upright. The motor exhaust vent this reads high from the carbon brush dust.Don't worry about that.

That is good to know that the allergen plus bags go down to zero. When people say it isn't a sealed system where isn't it sealed?
The floor nozzle is sealed to the body the fan casing is sealed with silicon the mini entire is sealed to the body the fill tube is sealed to the mini entire and the allergen plus bags do an excellent job. So where is the dust leaking from?

I know the carbon dust escapes from the motor vent but no household dust.

I bought an M1200 from Tom in June 2014.  I was looking for something that cleaned well and would survive an abusive cleaning lady.  I researched online and in person locally.  I was unable to try one of these locally, but tried the previous version of the Simplicity Fetch.  The cleaning lady also liked it, but was never able to destroy it.  It's still going strong.  The cleaning lady finally made me mad enough to let her go.

I got a lightly used Kirby Diamond Edition about the same time from a local guy who refurbishes them.  It cleans well too, but it is not nearly as versatile.  The only thing I think the Kirby does better is cover large carpeted areas with less effort.

I hope you like yours as much as I do mine!
