Had a wonderful Thursday this past week. Met up with my good friend Rick B. and his buddy Marc at Denny's for lunch here in my home town. Got to discuss vacuums, tube radios, cars, etc. Just an overall enjoyable time! However before we departed ways I purchased two machines from Rick.

The machines in question being a very clean Electrolux AF and a GE Roll Easy. (3rd Version; non-copper plated.) Rick had purchased the AF for me and paid him back for it, however unbeknown to me, he had also given me the option of purchasing a very clean Hoover model 28 and a GE Roll Easy. So naturally (After some thorough thinking) I bought the Roll Easy, as it has been a machine that I've been looking for since joining the forum. It lacks the wands and other attachments, but thank the heavens that it came with the elusive power cord and intact vinyl hose. These machines will have permanent spots within my collection and will be looked after with the utmost care.

As soon as I got these machines home I jumped right into them. (Being that it was also my only free day that week.) The Electrolux didn't need much, just a good wipe down, and polish. Rick also included a power nozzle and electric hose along with the traditional wands/floor tool. The power nozzle was disassembled, washed (without the motor in place of course), serviced, reassembled, and polished. It hums along quite nicely and grooms the carpet really well! The hoses and attachments cleaned up really well, looks to be a fairly low mile machine!
One thing that kind of surprised me was that Rick had informed me that this AF pulled 70 ins of vacuum, (empty bag of course) which is insane... Sure enough in combination with the vinyl hose/multi-floor tool, it pulls the carpet right up! Even more so than my Model G, Model E and more than any other machine in my collection for that matter.

The Roll Easy took quite a bit more going through than the AF. It was a tad grubby but nothing too bad. Hand buffed a majority of the scratches alongside the wheels and de-grimed the rubber wheels with a sponge soaked in warm soapy water. The body of the machine was wiped clean inside and out with some disinfectant wipes. The cloth filter was relatively clean, but I used the AF to vacuum it out any left over dust. I demolded the front cover as well as the side cover with bleach/water, along with some scrubbing to get some of the stubborn mold out. Finished it up with some wax and vinylex to prevent the wheels from collecting dirt again. (Or at least for a good while until the wax rubs off.) The vinyl hose didn't need much so I just cleaned up the end connectors.

Here's the funny part.... I thought I was finished with the Roll Easy but upon returning an hour later to my bedroom, I was greeted with a strong spoiled butter popcorn smell.. You would not believe how bad it was! LOL. On closer inspection, I wasn't seeing anymore mold. That was....until I pulled the front cover off.. It was JAM PACKED full of the stuff.. From what I gathered, some the water/bleach solution seeped into the back of the cover and got onto the hidden mold inside. In turn, causing this strong foul odor. I just dunked the whole thing in bleach/water and removed the leftover mold. After that ordeal, I took caution and made sure it was completely dry and mold free before reassembly.

Whoops...apologies in advance for making this quite a long read, I just figure it's best to get the whole story out there about these machines.

I'd like to personally thank Rick and Marc again for coming out here to discuss some things and share some vac stories. It made for an enjoyable afternoon and hope you guys had a great time as well!

Quieter Wheels

The wheels were rather noisy when I pushed and pulled it by the handle. A kind of plastic on plastic rubbing sound.

My fix for this issue was taking the wheels off and applying some white lithium grease paste on the metal rings and on the inner plastic wheel hubs itself. (basically areas where the plastic wheels rub against)

It glides smooth as silk now! with very little or hardly any noise at all.
