A little bit of backstory.

Purchased a Kirby Ultimate G from Gumtree for $150AU. Wanted to do something with my hands instead of watching TV or being on the computer all day.

In addition we have been in our newly bought home for about a year and the traffic lanes were starting to really show. I use and like Dyson however needed something with intense agitation to restore the pile. I'm a bit of a gadget geek and wouldn't call myself a vacuum hobbyist or collector but I certainly see the attraction.

Not many machines in Australia come with Turbo brushes and even fewer come with electric power heads.

Any-who back on with my little restore project.

The unit worked, came with most of the parts and I got to work.

I placed an order online with GoodVac for some belts, brush bar, bags, shampoo and other bits I needed like hubcaps and pulled apart the unit.

The Tech-drive leaver had worked it's way out, the fill tube was kinked and clogged, replaced the fan and finished it all off with a good buff and polish using Mothers Ally and Mag cleaner and a exterior bag wash.

In researching what and how to go about the restore I was forever grateful for this site and YouTube. An absolute wealth of knowledge, opinions and ideas. Thank you.

Last night was the maiden voyage. I was impressed with how the carpet pile was lifted and fluffy again.

Even though we do a quick vac every day with a DC44 Animal (dang animal fur everywhere!) and a thorough clean with a DC19 Turbine every few weeks, it amazing to see a good cup or so of filth that had been collected from just two rooms!

I had to give the shampooer a go, removed some food stains from the carpet in no time and seemed to restore the pile even further.

The only thing I may need to re-check is where a particular smell is coming from. It kind of smells like hot motor, dust or a combo of both and only faintly after vacuuming. Don' know if it's just because it hasn't been used for a while or if it's the odor of what it pulled up from our carpets. Hmm.

Cheers,

Brian

Enjoy your new machine. They're absolute BEASTS. The best part is they're designed to be serviced so they'll last a lifetime. I was mightily impressed the first time I tried out my Gsix (Ultimate G's immediate predecessor) and it cleaned a cat hair encrusted Persian rug in one pass with a completely full bag and an almost broken belt.

Weird smell...

Sounds like a scratched commutator or low brushes. Only thing that I know of with that "smell".

Every time you use your G7, you will fall in love with it a little more.

There is no other floor care system that will beat your G7 except maybe a Sentria or Avalir!

Here I am a week later, vacuumed all the family homes and I need to change the beg.

Very impressive and satisfying.

Cheers,

Brian
