So I've just about decided the brush roll on my PN4A needs replacing. Looking online, I see that brush rolls for a PN2 are considerably less expensive than those for a PN4. Since they're the same length, will a PN2 brush roll work in a PN4A? Is there a downside to using one? The thread guards on the PN4 brush roll appear to be larger than those on the PN2. It would seem to me the smaller thread guards on the PN2 brush roll would be less of an issue than going the opposite direction and trying to put a PN4 brush roll into a PN2. Opinions and observations are welcomed and appreciated.

PN4 bristles are longer than the PN2 also the thread guards on the PN4 are larger, I wouldn't use a PN2 brush roll in a PN4 it will not clean correctly |

Yeah, I'm now wondering if I have a PN2 brush roll in my PN4-A. The bristles don't seem to stick out far enough effectively clean a Persian rug and the thread guards aren't very pronounced. No worries if it is, since I have a PN2 as well. I really wish the PN4/4-A's brush roll was adjustable like the one on PN2. I guess the longer bristles were the tradeoff on that feature. I've got my PN2's brush roll set to the 'used' position and it cleans the Persian rug much better than the PN4-A does.

Thanks Andy. I've got a line on one for $19.99 with free shipping, which is $5 more than a PN2 brushroll.
I finally dug out my PN2 a little while ago to compare its brush roll with that of the PN4-A. The bristles seem to be practically the same length--which could explain why they're not working too well on the PN4-A, especially considering that I moved the PN2's brush roll to the 'used' position because the bristles were a little worn down. The thread guards are indeed slightly larger on the PN4-A's brush roll, which would obviously cause clearance issues putting it into a PN2, but I'm not trying to do that. It just makes me wonder why the engineers at Electrolux thought it was necessary to redesign the brush roll instead of design the PN4/4-A so that it would use the PN2 brush roll. |
