My grandmother had an AirWay Model 66 Vacuum Cleaner. Looking at the ad I noticed some things I do not agree with in the ad shown.

1. The actual hose of the machine was about 3 feet shorter than what was seen.

2. It is not a quiet machine, about the same loudness of other machines of the same time period.

3. the exhaust air of the machine leaves dark spots on carpeting. Not it was not dust leakage, it was from the carbon brushes of the motor, Better to use the machine while on its side.

4. The machine gave great service for over 40 years! After she died I have no idea which family member took it. Only genuine Airway bags were used and the cover/gasket remained intact.

AirWay had a cotton motor sick to quiet the motor and catch carbon dust. Now that they are old they mark your carpet. Replace it with a HEPA bag and it will never leave another spot.

Andy.....

Where was this "sick" located on the Air-Way? I recall seeing a disk or something post motor that was some type of filter.

Is that what you are referring to?

The

Second generation 66 introduced in 1952 had a deflector on the bottom much like the later AirWays,,,no more black spots,The hose was originally 10 feet long and was a burgundy red cloth braid, The AirWay had its on unique sound, about as loud as a model 30 Electrolux.

Found the ilistration...

So this is my answer. Neither my Air-Way or Vita-Vac had the post motor filters when I dismantled them.

Forgot the source, but I cropped it to get this image. I still am looking for the User's Manual or at least a scanned copy.
