So I was at Goodwill a little while ago and I walked by the vacuum cleaners and didn't spot anything of interest. Then after I made my circuit around the store, I passed by a second time in the opposite direction and spied a gray plastic Kirby accessory caddy. Then I realized it was taped to a Kirby vacuum cleaner--an Ultimate G Diamond Edition. The machine was dirty, missing a hub cap on one of the rear wheels, but definitely cleanable The accessory kit was incomplete, missing the hose and wands. I'm not sure what all was in the bottom of the caddy. They wanted $50 for it and I just wasn't feeling it; besides, I had promised myself after I bought my Electrolux Diamond Jubilee right before Christmas that I wouldn't get any more vacuum cleaners for a while. I left the store feeling good about having exercised some will power but by the time I got home, I wasn't so sure. The last Kirby I bought came from that same store and was priced the same. It was a gleaming Gsix with a complete accessory kit, so by comparison this isn't quite as good a deal. Had it been in the $30-$40 range, I might have gone ahead and grabbed it.
The store closed a few minutes ago, so I can't go back for it right now (good thing) but if I'm still obsessing over it in the morning, I may have to go back and have another look at it. |

Every "second" thought purchase has ended up being sold when I returned. Led me to snap up most vacuums the first time around. |

I'm 2 for 3 on that. I walked out on the aforementioned Gsix and went back for it later in the day. A couple was looking at it when I got there and as soon as the wife dismissed it as being "too heavy: and started looking at the plasticrap Dirt Devil next to it, I grabbed the thing and headed for the checkout. Last spring, I walked out on a Filter Queen Majestic for $5, drove around for a few minutes and went back and bought it. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't. The one that got away a few weeks later was an Electrolux Epic upright that was gone the next day but I ended up getting a Discovery Plus later in the week for $10 less.
The bottom line is if I go back tomorrow and it's not there, it simply wasn't meant to be and I'll get over it, kind of like losing an auction on eBay. |
