I was at a electronics salvage yard a few days ago, and they had vacuums. Most of it was plastic junk, but then I saw a Kirby G5! I asked them if they sold anything, and they said no. I woulda paid $15 for it. It went to Cincinnati, Ohio for recycling. It's in Kirby heaven now. I even had a dream about that Kirby. I hope that the aluminum is going to the Kirby factory in Ohio, and that it gets turned into an Avalir. :'(

The Kirby company makes (and made) approximately 1000 machines per day in Cleveland. In fact, the vacuum club went to the factory when they were making G5 models brand new. We saw how they were made, how they were tested, and even got to see the prototypes (the engineering department was across the street from the factory at that time).
There are so many more Kirby vacuums that people just throw away. Vac shops throw them away all the time - they get way too many traded in that they cannot sell. Get to know a vac shop owner, and check out his dumpster for 'treasures'. |
