Why are there so many of these stick vacuums that hover around the $20-$30 range? Like, every major vacuum manufacturer makes at least one of these. Here are two made by Dirt Devil.

I think the reason is that they are affordable vacuums that successfully perform one task: quick removal of loose dirt on bare floors and surface litter on carpets. I often describe these machines as a "Dustbuster on a stick". We are all often faced with the need for a speedy pick up of surface litter in our homes - especially in the kitchen. And for 20 bucks, these are attractive solutions to the problem.

I had an older Bissell 3-in-one version that also came under the Singer name. It was great on hard floors, and had two filters so you could use it while you were washing the other. The only thing about it was the cord could have been longer. I sold it, but wouldn't mind having another one.
These are always advertised during back to school for student dorm rooms. |
