Good morning,
I have been using my Silver King red professional model 73-b from 1992 as my daily driver lately and went to put a new spun poly filter in it and I seem to be out. I discovered the good ones are very hard to find now. This really is no big deal to me as I never liked the dump filter system anyway and have thought about retro fitting a bag before but never "needed to" but now I need to. Has anyone here ever found a bag that fills the tank and has a tight seal on the collar? I'd really like to use hepa bags if possible and I'm hoping to find bags that are still vastly produced. I mean I can probably use Fairfax bags but eventually I'm afraid even those will be hard to find. According to my instruction book they did used to make a paper bag for these that looked kind of like an over sized Eureka S-M bag. It was intended for those really dirty jobs when you don't want to over coat your filter. I find this a rather funny oxy moran lol

and speaking of which,,, way off topic but I also read in my 1980's Thermax instruction that they also had a paper bag adaptor for cleaning up fine dust/drywall that wouldn't stay in the water. unfortunately LONG discontinued.

This weekend I plan to play with several bags till I find something if no one here has an idea.

Phil, Tom Gasko has suggested here on Vacuumland in the past that a Kenmore 5055 HEPA Cloth will fit a Fairfax & improve it's performance. If you can use a Fairfax bag in your Silver King, it stands to reason a Kenmore bag should also fit & work in the Silver King too.

I've gone to Lowe's & gotten shop vac filters (3 pkg) which are blue & cut them to fit for my Fairfax, Silver King & the Water Matic which with these I just use a wisk broom to dust them off & reuse them. So far haven't had to replace them yet.

Both good suggestions. I'm not sure a Fairfax bag fits I'm just assuming it would. I have several Kenmore bags so I'll try those tonight. I also have some of the shop vac filters. Thanks guys

You can still order Silver King filters from their website-I ordered 3 packs-30 filters per pack.Besides FK machines I have used FK filters as "Safety" filters for older Lux vacuums that don't have one.I suppose FK doesn't make their vacuums anymore-but the filters are still available.Suggest you order as much as you can in case they get discontinued.

"Silver King Filters"

Hello! Silver King filters are still available on E-Bay.
The Company went Bankrupt around a year and a half ago and a man who runs a vacuum shop in Colorado makes the original Polypropylene filters for Silver King and can be ordered thru him. He lists as "Silver King Filters"
Never operate the cleaner without filters! Also, Shop Vac bags work as well if you desire to use bags. Hope this helps you!

HAPPY VACUUMING !!

Tania

In my SK 2000-Blue-there is a rubber deflector at the intake to the container under the filter. How would you put a bag on this-remove the deflector?Currently I use my SK as a "kitchen-car" vacuum.Replace the filter like as on a Filter Queen-every month.Works fine for me.The SK filter package suggested changing filters after EACH USE-this would be just too wasteful and expensive. When I empty the SK-just simply slurp it out with my NSS M1 or one of my bagged central vacs. One time I vacuumed off the filter and reused it!-was fine!Just tried that as an experiment.

Yes the rubber deflector just comes right off.
Thank you all for the info. I will order more filters and will still try some bags just for the fun of it.
