I was looking through a vacuum repair book at the local library, and they had a picture of a Eureka Emperor. Has anybody heard of these? Does anyone have one?

They were made by panasonic for eureka, or something like that.
Experts please give your imput on this matter

I do have an Eureka Emperor, and they were also badged for Montgomery Ward, and maybe more. They were made by Panasonic, or actually Matsushita I believe. It was Eureka's attempt for an upright with a concealed bag, a la Dial-A-Matic style, and had a handy front tool conversion. From what I understand, I'm lucky to have one that works, as there were motor problems with them. It was their top of the line along with the Empress canister. It has an adjustable heighth handle, two-speed push-button control panel, and a cordwinder. I even have a supply of bags, but afraid to use it too much for fear the motor will fail, so it sits proudly in my collection.

It took a little searching, but I did remember that a pic had been posted from one of the mini-meets some time back. I'm pretty sure the Eureka in the right of the field is the Emperor. This is the actual example in Rick's collection.

 The Emperor was Eureka's direct competition for the Hoover Dial A Matic, however it was not quite the same as a DAM. The Eureka had a horizontal motor like the DAM, but was a "dirty fan" machine rather than clean air. Eureka would not make a clean air machine until their Victory and Excaliber models of the early 90's.
The Emperor's belt also was out in the suction stream too.
I vaguely remember these in the stores, they were on the market for a very short time in the late 60's, maybe 1969?
I do remember a few years back I saw a Montgomery Wards badged one in a junk store. It was absolutely trashed, so I left it...

Yes, they are rare. There was one in the Eureka Sales office
here in columbus when I joined the sales force back in 1979.
I actually ended up with it in my vac shop in the 80's but
went by the way with everythig else when I cleaned out the
place. I think it still ran and had some bags for it. I was
not real fond of it. Took it when they offered it to me thinking I would preserve it for the future! Gone!

I have many many many genuine (I think)packs of these bags that I bought from an old appliance store auction. If any one is looking for any of these bags let me know and I will check to see if they are genuine.
