Once again why stopping by my local Kirby dealer, I found another great vacuum. A 1999 Electrolux Epic 3500 SR 75th Anniversary Edition. This machine was extremely clean and also came with a 12 pack of bags. Judging by the sticker on the front it looks like it had been serviced recently by another local vac shop that specializes in Electrolux. For only $20 this machine was definitely a steal. I am so grateful to have such awesome people at Kirby. They always give me great deals because they know I am a collector.

Nice find...

You beat me and my Discovery Plus, which I got past spring. Yours is in better shape and you paid about $5 less for it. Those Lux uprights are very nice machines, one of the better plastic-bodied cleaners out there, although I have to admit I really like the metal canisters better.

Metal Canisters

I have yet to find one of those other than my automatic e but hopefully sometime soon I will run across one. I remember using my great grandmothers as a kid. You don't find many machines made like that anymore.

I reply: Actually, you can. The Perfect metal canisters are near-perfect reproduction of the classic metal Electrolux canisters from the 1970s and '80s. I don't own one but the people who have posted about them on this site have had largely positive things to say about them. A nice side benefit is that many of the parts are actually cross-compatible between the Perfect and Electrolux canisters. Many members here also say they use Perfect's HEPA bags in their classic Electrolux canisters with very good results.

What I meant was...

I was referring to the old Electroluxes with the metal powernozzles, I just like the feel of them. I own a perfect canister, it's a great machine and yes it's indentical to the older luxes which is really neat considering you can buy one brand new. I wished more manufacturers would clone older vacuum designs if the patents allowed. Could you imagine going to the store and buying a brand new machine that mimicked one of your favorite vintage machines?

That's what's so brilliant about what Perfect is doing. They're apparently working from designs for which the patents have expired. I agree it would be cool if they'd come out with a reproduction of the classic models like the XXX and LXi. Of course, those didn't have power nozzles but how hard would it be to add a powered hose fitting?

One can only hope...

That sometime in the future more company's do this. Most manufacturers now days have cut corners to save cost on machines and the results are most of this plastic crap they call vacuums now days. They are poorly designed and it seems most people just don't care what they buy anymore as long as it's cheap. We have became a disposable society.
