Hi Westinghouseman:

I was one of the first to sign in in the name of the V.C.C.C., and I encourage all members, as well as those here in Vacuumland to sign in too.

While I spoke on the phone with Ron a few times, we never met. Always sad when a club member passes. I have fond memories of him.

We are devastated..

Ron was one of our closest friends,He made several trips with us to Mike Hays this past spring and summer to help move all those machines and in August went with us to the Wash In and helped cook,I usually talked with him several times a week, Monday he was fine when we spoke, Donald tried to get him Friday and I did too, no answer, we then found out he had taken his life, to make matters worse, he was a only child and his Mother found him in the car...he had shot himself thru the head, The first thing She asked me when we walked in the funeral home in Rockingham was, "Why did he do this", It was all Donald and I could do not to burst out crying, His parents are about 80 and now are totally lost, I know I'm about crazy over this, I can only imagine what his parents are going thru,Im going to drive down to see them this weekend, they are very nice kind people, please keep them in your prayers, Ron and I had known each other over 15 years and had never had one cross word, he truly was a wonderful friend who can never be replaced.

I first met Ron when he came to a Convention of the old VCCC. I was President of the Club, and we held a convention in North Carolina (former VCCC member, Clay Floyd, hosted). That was the convention where we went to Electrolux as a group, and I talked the President of Electrolux into giving the old club a Commemorative Edition.

Ron was an awesome man. Always kind and helpful, with a wicked sense of humor. He was always willing to help with the lunches (the new club calls them banquets). I have a number of photos of him running vacuums for the cleaning contest. So sad to hear the news, and even sadder when you realize he was only 57. I'm heartbroken over it. May he rest in peace.

It's a sad fact that suicides often leave more questions than answers. Almost five years later, I'm still trying to figure out why my best friend did it. I didn't know Ron but we can only pray that he has found the peace that apparently eluded him in this life.

Thank you, Ken, for letting us know

Suicide, sadly, has touched many families,  mine included. So many unanswered questions, blame, guilt, etc.

I'll be sure to add him to our "In Memoriam" book. As a former member... of the 'old VCCC"? I can't seem to recall it disbanding, and a new club forming. The club, like many things, constantly changes, the good parts staying, the not so good parts being changed, replaced, eliminated, etc.

Although,  his involvement in The V.C.C.C. was before me,  it's terrible to receive this news. He seemed to have touched many people.  He'll certainly be missed.  My conolences to his family/friends.  He'll be in my prayers.

John, Vice pres of the only V.C.C.C.

As always, a huge "Thank You"

to Alex Tabor and John Lucia, for, had they not gone to Hoover, our club would have never begun.  Because of their efforts,  we've know so many great people,  including Ron Jones.

Thank you John.

All we did was get the ball rolling, the rest, as they say, is history.

And, Alex.........................

Sorry about spelling your last name wrong. I knew the minute I hit 'send'........
Can you imagine spelling the name of the co-founder of our V.C.C.C. incorrectly?
You may slap my hand when we meet at the convention in June. We all make mistakes/errors, myself included.

Jhon, Jon, no, wait... John, THAT's it!

Don't worry about it.

It's not a big deal John, I get that all the time. Instead of slapping your hand at the next convention you can give me a bar hug! As to hitting the wrong keys, I do that a lot now.

Alex.

Let's get this derailed train back on track.

The main reason for this thread is Ron Jones, not the idle chatter about the V.C.C.C.

This is the Christmas season and must be a sad time for Ron's family and friends. I for one want to stop, say a prayer and remember a person I never got a chance to meet, but had a few great conversations with.

Let me say that my thoughts and prayers are with those who knew and loved him.

Never met him myself, but it's always sad to hear of the passing of a fellow collector, past or present. My condolences to his family, as well as those here who knew him. Sounds like he was an awesome guy.

My condolences as well, never met or talked to the man. Statistically, about 15% of suicide victims exhibit no external warning signs whatsoever......they keep it all inside. Suicides are always devastating to family and friends, but when it comes completely out of left field like this, doubly so.

This is very sad. I remember Ron well. Until I read Hans's posting, I did not know the circumstances about his death. I hope he is at peace now.
