The Lawrence Welk Show

Oddly enough, I happened to catch this Hoover Convertible/Model 34 on a 1966 episode of THE LAWRENCE WELK SHOW.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the show PAWN STARS has ever featured a vintage vac. I'd like to hear their reaction to one would be along with its perceived value.

There were loads of vacuums in One Foot In The Grave. Victor & Margaret had 2 Turbopower's (U2336 & a U2602), a Henry, a DC01 and a Hoover Compact. Mrs. Warboys had a Lux Twin Turbo Z1010 and Patrick & Pippa had a Lux Microlite

Mission: Impossible

human's profile picture
I recently acquired the first season of Mission: Impossible on DVD and the epsiode "A Spool There Was" opens with a hotel maid, who turns out to be Dan Briggs' (forerunner of Jim Phelps) contact, vacuuming a corridor with a '50s vintage Hoover. I tried to take screen shots but the computer wouldn't let me. They just came out as gray squares. If you can get your hands on the DVDs, it's disc 3, episode 1

Did you use to take the screenshot? Did you try to freeze frame the DVD and then do a PrtSc?

On my Mac, I paused the DVD at the appropriate moment and used the screen capture function (cmd + option + 3) to capture the screen image. The entire screen was captured except the interior of the DVD Player window, which was grayed out.

Three's Company vac is a sad, mutilated model 29. Silver base and red handle give it away but the white hood and bag feel so wrong.

true. They ruined it.

But, there were others on the show.
Once, "Chrissy" ran a Commercial.... bag not inflated, etc.
They must have removed the motor, as, she moved it very easily. We all know how heavy those things are.

The Electrolux model LX is a very quiet vacuum cleaner, it would not drown out a phone. To get that effect it should have been a Kirby.

Must have been an early model as I think it has the red lettering on yellow background. But, as it's black and white, not 100% sure.

I never noticed before that they put a chrome strip over the "HOOVER" logo. They did such a good job concealing that I thought it was always like that. They must have not wanted to pay Hoover that day, lol

I had accumulated a list of TV "vacuum cleaner sightings" but I can't find it. Off the top of my head--

Premier tank on Dennis the Menace. It was Mrs. Wilson's. Mr. Wilson was using it to look for a rare postage stamp.

G.E. Roll-Easy on Dennis the Menace. Dennis took the machine outside to vacuum up leaves.

G.E. Roll-Easy on I Dream of Jeannie. Major Nelson sucked Jeannie up into the Roll Easy. I don't remember why.

Kirby early 500-series on Petticoat Junction. A house with wacky wiring went haywire. When one of the girls flicked a wall switch the Kirby went rolling across the floor. (It had the floor polisher nozzle on it.)

Modern Hygiene tank on Hazel. Also, another episode where a custom-made prop vacuum cleaner was used.

These are the ones that come right to mind; I'm sure I'll think of more.

There was also an Eureka Princess on Three's company. Larry borrows it to clean his apartment.

Hoover Convertible on The Dick Van Dyke Show. Laura (Mary Tyler Moore) won it and several other small appliances as one of the contestants on a TV game show.

Of course ... Westinghouse tank on I Love Lucy!

On a later episode she's using a Hoover 2 upright (don't remember the model) with a lot of business of using the attachments. Product Placement much?!

I'm amazed they didn't use Hazel more often to promote new vacuums - since she was a housemaid and all. I guess they didn't want the show to become a marketing schlock for vacuums or cleaning products.

Uncle Charley also used the Lux XXX, in fact it was the ONLY vacuum I remember seeing on My Three Sons. Sometimes you would also see one of the boys carrying it upstairs or downstairs. I think the only member of that family who DIDN'T do anything with the Lux was the Dad, Steve Douglas, played by Fred MacMurray.

Thanks, Jeff. I've seen the B & W episodes more recently than the colored ones on TV.

Such consistency in prop's suggests to me a detailed and organized manager; and maybe the fact that MTS didn't share its prop's with other shows.

Maroon color, with the striped bag.

I had previously mentioned a Hoover Convertible on Young Sheldon.
I've since seen at least two different Convertibles, maybe three. And, there may have been a Dial A Matic in a background shot.
Part of the reason I like the show is the sets, props, and vehicles. I miss the 1980s!
