I am in the mood to get rid of my Dyson and bring a Kirby back into the house! Sick of how loud the Dyson is and the pain in the arse tools that drop off every time I move it! I have little carpet but I used to like turning the brush roll off on the Kirby to do my wooden floors and they came up well.

Bored of the Dyson now. I have had a heritage, and a G5 before but I upgraded the emptor to a mini emptor. I got rid of it when I bought my new house as I had lots of wooden floors and less rugs but now I have a nice thick rug in the living room from Ikea and the Dyson get stuck on it, its god awful as it just will not move over it. Even my nan's hoover junior glides over the rug! I cant even push the dyson over it with it turned off!

So I am looking for one again and will get rid of the Dyson!

Sentria

I forgot to say I have had a Sentria as well but think I preferred my G5 over build quality.

Which Dyson Do You Have?

I'm hearing more and more reports from people that their Dyson doesn't move on thick carpet or rugs. Which model do you have? I have an older DC14 (non-ball) and it moves fine over any surface.

Richard,

I have a G3 and a Sentria. They both do an outstanding job of cleaning my wall to wall carpet. However for some reason the G3 is much quieter than the Sentria.

Any G3 or newer machine would be a great choice. I prefer the G3 and newer ones because of the Tech Drive, which largely negates the weight factor except on steps. They can be had very affordably and are absolute cleaning BEASTS. Best of all, they're actually designed to be repaired, not tossed, which is the way all appliances should be. I can't speak to specific models as I've only ever used a G5 and a Gsix, which are essentially identical machines with different color schemes.

I've found my G3 to be quieter also, I think it had a different fan than the newer models

Richard,

Have you ever thought of finding any Kirby -- in your country -- as far back as the Classic Omega? I know every Kirby collector residing on your side of the Atlantic had said, from posts I've researched here in the past, that up until the Tradition came out in 1979, these machines with their shake-out bags didn't particularly sell very well.

I have a DC14 all floors - clutched model. I have been told its because its an "all floors" the floor plate is setup differently to just a carpet model.

I had the heritage which was a good cleaning machine but was very bulky and heavy to push - you got a good workout when pushing that around.

I prefer the techdrive models.

And another solution

My DC07 - Carpets didn't have this issue and I remember the floor plate didn't have a rubber strip in it!

I am gonna try this tonight:
