Hello, Everybody, well, Nathan's found a "New" vacuum. New to me, anyway. I was on the local news at 6 and 10 p.m., and the following day a lady called me from out of town and said she had an antique vacuum I could have. So, I picked it up after work this past monday. It's a Sears Kenmore Bullet canister, with the dolly and hose. I'm in the process of restoring it, I currently have the motor out of it. When I get it restored I will take some pictures of it. I must say that motor was really hard to pull out! The vacuum is a teal green color, so when I get it all fixed up I'll post pictures of it. It looks like back then it was well made! Anyway, I'll post pictures of it when I get it up and running. It's really a neat vacuum.

Or is it the bullet shaped polished aluminum cap set inside the shroud somewhat like a jet pod engine intake? These styles have no wheels of their own, meant to be strapped to the Kart and the foot switch in a step on tab.

Or is it the purely bullet shaped cap used on the Commander? The Commander resembles more a smooth sided torpedo, came with it's own wheels and a single front skid and a push button toe switch.

Oh, I do like these Kenmores on their Karts. :-)

My Commander is the wheeled version with the bakelite handle for cart-less use. It has the aftermarket "Car-Ree-Vac" Model 2A caddycart made by Car-Ree-All Products, Inc. of Minneapolis MN.

Virtually any cylinder vacuum can be strapped to it. The hose, wands and all the tools have pockets in the cloth apron bag, held taut by the springs mounted to the gray crinkle painted base. You can see the bifurcated exhaust well in the base. I reversed the handle over the vac (I think) so it takes up less space in the closet.

Didn't mean to suggest those were all mine. Just as examples from the reference files. LOL Now I will add your's to the folder, Fred.

I have only the Commander on the Car-Ree-Vac. My burgundy cord is crumbling to dust - really need a maroon/dark red cord...anyone.?

Dave, eagerly awaiting Nathan's pictures.

My Vacuum

Hey, all, no pictures yet, the vacuum's all apart. I have the motor out of it and am ordering new bearings for it. It looks like the second picture, the one aeoliandave posted, the hose comes out the top of the machine, not the side. It will be a nice machine once I get it up and running. I'll try to post pics of it soon.

Hey Guys, I love the torquise and chome one. I remember a neighbor across the street from us... Had one, I got to use
it once or twice. Very fun and the Chrome Rug nozzle was my
favorite. It reminded ,of a lux or a kirby back in the 50's !

Rebuilding or Replacing motor in vacuum

Hey, guys--I need some advice, I'm trying to rebuild the motor in this old Sears vacuum, that motor is so huge I had a hard time pulling it out of the machine, the bearings need replacing, I got some replacement ones from a local bearing supply house, they are a little different in that they don't have the little hub that sticks out on them, rather they are the standard round ones. Well, I put the motor back together, and the armature has enough play in it that the fans hit the housing when it runs. I'm thinking of maybe putting some washers behind the bearings that way if the armature still moves up and down the fan won't hit the housings. The other option I have thought about was to replace the motor, but that might be difficult as well. There isn't anything inside the case of the machine that you could screw the new motor in. So, what do you think? Should I go ahead and try to rebuild the original motor, or replace it, and if I replace it, do you all have any hints as to what I could do to make sure that the replacement motor will be held in tight?

Although not the most powerful machines the Kenmore "torpedo tank" is a nice machine to have, whether it's a "kart" model or the regular tank. I always liked that "prrrrrrrreeeeeeenn sound they make when you fire them up!!

It kinda looks like an old hospital oxygen tank. Not being critical.
