Hi, I have a hoover 612 with original cable. The machine is part of my unused collection but the cable has started to stick together and cracked. Does anyone know if there is a preserver for the cable to stop it deteriorating?

I've seen this before with "o" rings and pinball bumpers. Heat seems to speed it along. All I can tell you is that it makes a horrid putrid mess to cleanup if you wait too long to remove it.If I was insistent upon keeping the cord, I reckon I would separate it from the machine during storage.
