HI Robert:
I had a chance to read over your blog. I'm not sure why you picked the cleaners you have picked as (for example) "best uprights". Where is the Maytag M1200, or the Kirby Avalir, or the Kenmore Direct Drive Intuition? How about the Sebo Felix or the Miele Jazz? Have you never used 'really' good vacuums before? Are you aware there are no repair parts to fix a Shark (your recommended cleaner)? Or that the recommended Dyson gets less than 50% of the total dirt from a carpet?

I enjoy well written blogs about vacuums, but a real "expert" needs to be just that, an "expert". Someone who has knowledge (First Hand) of ALL vacuums, not just the ones that spend money on heavy advertisements. Someone who has taken a screwdriver and taken apart his "recommended" machines.

Thank you for writing your blog, it has certainly taken some time and is a very nice blog, but, there is an entire world of performance vacuum cleaners that you talk nothing about. Would love to meet you in person sometime, at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum (St. James, MO), where we have over 800 vacuums, to explore the world of cleaners thoroughly - so that you can make real, expert recommendations to your readers.

Robert, it's nice to have you here and thank you for sharing your input/website.

Aside from that, consider the source.  Nuff said.

Totally agree with Tom here. Once a while, we would have someone on here who is looking for advice for a new vacuum and we usually recommend higher quality grade vacuums like Riccar/Simplicity/Maytag, Lindhaus, Sebo, Miele, or anything that's usually alot more expensive than what you would see in department stores.

This is in the wrong place. Vintage stands for older vacuums, new machines should be in Contemporary.

I see a few issues, one that stands out are the site comments. All posted on the same day and two were posted within ten minutes of each other.

I see you have many items linked to Amazon, I'm assuming your receive a sort of commission from Amazon for all sales made through your site.

I agree with the previous commenters, try adding some better machines to your recommended machine lists. And i disagree with the assumption that uprights are more powerful than canisters.

Your price range for canisters is a bit off as well, considering the Aerus, Rainbow, Tristar, and even many Miele machines go well above $500.

Your photo on the website is a stock photo, the website says you were born in 1963 while your Vacuumland profile says you were born in 1980, and the wording of many pages just sounds off. You went to Stanford University so you could be a salesman at Walmart for 18 years, all to become a "vacuum electronic expert?"

Very fishy.

I find it funny how some people will use this site just to market their own means. If the op actually took some time to browse the forums they would see what TRUE enthusiasts and experts would recommend. He would also see that almost all of his recommendations are nothing that we would recommend. I consider this site more of a help blog than his.

Yeah it looks like a nice site but even for Amazon selection I think you could do MUCH BETTER!!!

A Proteam Proforce dual motor upright would do better than the Oreck XL commercial. Eureka Boss 1934B at $80 is a better buy than many of the units posted. It will clean well and be very easy to maintain, it will definitely outclean the Oreck Commercial and Sharks you have listed!! Sebo Felix for a well made unit with attachments and fully sealed system. Fuller Brush Mighty Maid is a good one made by Tacony and since Amazon can't sell Riccar or Simplicity then Fuller Brush would be the closest to them along with Maytag uprights. The Shark Rocket I don't even consider an upright and as mentioned you can't replace parts on Sharks. For a bagless recommendation you could do a Panasonic bagless. The Miele Dynamic U1 series would be a great reliable unit with Sealed HEPA filtration and powerful cleaning. Most definitely the Maytag M1200 should be mentioned!!! A very high performance dual motor unit that will outclean any Shark and any Dyson and numerous other machines. It's only $655 on Amazon!! For a machine like the Riccar/ Simplicity SupraLite line then the Maytag M500 fits the boat at only $379.95---It will far outclean the Oreck commercial.

For hand vacs I think the Fuller Brush Power Maid Handheld should be mentioned.

Canisters should be divided straight suction and power nozzle. The Hoover PortaPower is well made but it really is straight commercial and it has a small bag capacity. For a better recommendation of a non-wheeled backpack/ shoulder canister I'd look to ProTeam backpacks. Tons of power on those and far greater bag capacity and filtration. Or could also do a Hoover commercial bagpack machine---the ShoulderPro C2401 is $259.33 on Amazon. Anything Bissell really isn't very durable. For a no frills straight suction canister on wheels I'd replace your post of the Bissell Zing with the Sanitaire Mighty Mite S3671D at $137.95 or also the Fuller Brush Home Maid line. The straight suction Home Maid canister is $149.92 and power nozzle version is $249.95 on Amazon. The Kenmore canister isn't bad, it is no frills. For better tools and same power the Panasonic MC-CG902 is $198. Another great Panasonic would be the MC-CL945 for bagless with the new Plush Pro nozzle. It's only $349.95, the bagged version with that power head is MC-CG957 and the best price I've seen anywhere for that unit at only $369.99!!! For a TOL canister how about the Miele C3 Cat and Dog complete. It has the SEB228 nozzle which if you know your vacuums like you say, you would know that the Wessel Werk EBK360 is a great power nozzle!!

I hope some of these choices help you!! From my experience you couldn't pay me to run the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional that you have posted!!! I used to do demos for Filter Queen and Rainbow and have seen the horrific stuff left behind by that model and some other Sharks!!!

Kirbycollector...

You impress me.. You have REALLY good taste for someone so young!! That's definitely what I would recommend :)

As for the site.. It needs work!! There is no depth to it.. I feel like it's more for the average day to day consumer that just doesn't care about quality and brand loyalty, and just wants something cheap that will quickly end up in the landfill. The true vacuum connoisseur will have had some kind of experience with MULTIPLE brands and models and yes, that includes expensive but quality, high end vacuums. Not everybody wants a Ford, when they can afford a Rolls Royce. The recommendations should reflect that.. Sorry but just my two cents..

a few comments

First, I think canisters will clean as well as, and in many cases better than uprights. Canisters are definitely more flexible, while many uprights have hoses, they are very awkward to use. With canisters, especially when using a good power nozzle, they will clean carpets very well and cleaning above the floor is also very easy.
Most, if not all vacuums sold in department stores are junk, maybe lasting a few years if that. The best brands in no particular order are Miele, Sebo, the Tacony brands, a high end Electrolux such as the ultra one, the vacuums made by Perfect Products, and Aerus. With Aerus you may have to do a bit of negociation to get a good deal since they insist on selling their products through in home demonstration, though that sales method is a dying breed. Oh, forgot one more good brand, the numatic vacuums are also very good.
