I remember many years ago using a different bag for my Hoover Model 33 bottom fill vacuum.

The standard bottom-fill Hoover type "C" bag just slides over the outlet port, and looks kind of like a sock. When the vacuum is turned off, debris might fall back down into the outlet port, and possibly fall out of the vac back onto the floor.

The other type of bag I remember was a more rectangular-shaped paper bag, and the inlet into the bag was much higher up. This allowed the debris to flow into the bag from near the top and settle at the bottom, keeping it all contained within the bag.

My Mom might have purchased this type of bag by accident, but I think it is a better idea that the type "C " bag.

Does anyone know what type of bag this might be? maybe for a different type of upright vac?

Please forgive the crude images shown below, I hope that you get the idea.

This is the Hoover "A" bag. You can find whole bag assemblies on Ebay.

After Further Reseach,

It might have been a Eureka type F&G bag.

The Hoover 'A' bag has a cardboard collar at the top. The bag I'm thinking of had a paper tube from near the top of it, going down, similar to the Eureka F&G type bag.

O.K. Yes, there are aftermarket Eureka F&G style assemblies for Hoover. But the rigid tube and high entry bag are genuine Hoover! I prefer the Hoover.

I could find a genuine Hoover rigid tube and whatever other parts are needed to convert from bottom-fill to top-fill, I most certainly would do the conversion.

Eureka may have often played "catch-up" as it tried to keep up with its major competitor Hoover, but one thing they did right on their own was introduce their innovative top-fill F&G disposable dust bag in the 1950's. This was indeed a better dirt collector than Hoover's bottom-fill "C" bags as debris fell out of the way of the path of the air flow at the "filtering" top of the bag. Though the slim vinyl bags on Hoover's Convertibles looked good and allowed for easier maneuvering of the cleaner, Eureka's larger, more "baggy" upright bags allowed for better filtration and stronger air-flow as the bag filled. The piece-de-resistance was Eureka's introduction of their "box-top" bag on their new Vanguard uprights in 1968.

Not sure exactly what year, but at some point in the mid-1970's, after Eureka uprights "swept" all the top slots in Consumer Reports tests, Hoover brought out its top-fill Click & Clean upright bag system with a plastic fill tube that allowed dirt to fall away from the air path. The bags got nice and spacious with this system as well.
