Today, I gave my dad a home demonstration. After refurbishing a Kirby G4 that I got last year, I had listed it on eBay and began to get some interest in it. I called my dad this morning on the off chance that he might want to check out the Kirby to see what it can do.
On our last visit, he told me that he and my stepmother had began to have allergy problems. He described his vacuuming method and the new carpet washer he had. I knew Kirby was the answer. He agreed to see me today and I actually demo'd it to him, my stepmother, my little sister, and her husband. I could tell they were blown away by the multitude of functions. I asked him to pull out their vacuum and was delighted to see a Dyson canister. I had my stepmother vacuum a large patch of the carpet extra-thoroughly. My little sister even commented that she never vacuums that area so thoroughly! I put a dirt meter on the Kirby and made two single swipes with it. What it pulled up was disgusting and filled the entire test pad. Immediately my father wanted the Kirby. I went ahead and vacuumed the entire room very thoroughly and shampooed it for them. They were thrilled with the results! That was super fun! I am so glad to have welcomed my dad into the Kirby family! |

Nice refurb on the G4. Is that a burgundy G5 emptor on there? It's great you're keeping it in the family.
It's pretty easy to be impressed with the performance of a Kirby. I was an instant convert when I grabbed a Gsix from beside a dumpster and it did a great job on a Persian rug with a torn (but not completely broken) belt and a bag that was so full it was like a sandbag. Once I got a new belt and a bag on it, I was amazed at what it would really do. |

Where else can you get paid doing what you like?
I started out working for a branch offic in Dubuque, Iowa, back in July of 1975, selling the Kirby Classic Omega. Then in June of 76 bought a Classic III, I sold those too. Then became an assistant training manager in Oak Park, Illinois (Chicago area) and spent the next 20 years with Kirby. |

@human - Thank you! Yes, that is a burgundy Emptor and it also had light gray front wheels. I guess it is something of a FrankenKirby, but it pulled up so much crud that even I was shocked! That's a cool Gsix story. My boss has a Gsix and brought it to our office to use for a while, until his father passed and he ended up with his Utimate G, which he brought to the office. I'm glad he didn't realize which was newer. :-)
@ caligula - I'm quite fortunate that most of my hobbies have provided me some financial reimbursement, although definitely not enough for all my investment of time! LOL No big deal, I consider it a HUGE honor to be able to share my passion with people such that they also benefit from it. I've converted 5 friends/family into Kirby Family members through my refurbishments. They have been SO excited to receive their Kirby and to learn how to use it in the home demonstration. It really is a blast! You are so fortunate to have actually worked selling Kirby brand new! |
