Hi Walter: Thanks for the inf - I found it interesting. Its strange that the 55 would appear so late in England though (1955). The 55 in Canada was out in 1949 and was surposed to be based on the Sweedish design as was our 30 which came out in 1939 and ran till 49 (with the exception of the war years when the plant made electric motors for the war effort). I do have the booklet that comes after the one I posted above too if anyone wants it. |

Thanks for the info Doug. Its very nice of you to go to the trouble of putting your booklet up here. It veryu nice. Thanks also Seamus For your info. I was givern a pack o old Electrolux Genuine Bags which has some other lux models after the 100 model lux. If I list them came some one let me know when they was out to or which ran at the same time? Are the Electrolux model 100s hard to find? jb |

LOL - oops I didnt know the 100's were that hard to come by. I just stripped a second one I managed to get for parts to finish up my 90. Unfortunately it didnt have the attachments but I do still have the body and hose extra. Wish I could find some other models here. I'll try to post the second booklet tomorrow as I already have it scanned. Doug |

Hi James, congratulations on your latest toys!!, you havnt sold the Kirbys I hope to fund them!!! Electrolux are my favourite cleaner, (is it because I grew Up with them!!) My gran had the Z55, purchased in 1951, it was always kept under the dresser she kept in the walk-in pantry under the stairs, the detachable cord was always hung on a hook just near the door, it was always my job as a kid to plug the cord in and then carefully wrap it up again and hang it back on the hook!!! Somehow one day it sucked up some water and blew the motor "Cleaners Konked Out" Gran said, not to worry a family friend was a Lux engineer, Mike was called for and he said "No Problem" using an engineer trick his disconected the motor and placed it in the gas oven on the lowest setting, Gran was having a cup of tea in the parlor, then an awful smell ensued...Gran didnt realise what he had done and so the engineer didnt realise that the "Regulo" was broken and the oven was "On High"..OMG...a melted mess was all that was left.....AND a brand new shiney Electrolux Z94 was delivered...and life returned to normal... |

Thanks Doug for the information books, me thinks you have more stuff that we have here!!! but then you have been collecting rather longer....I think the difference in Z55 models was in the tools etc, tubes went from the solid chrome to the lighter wands etc...my Gran "Upgraded" her Z55 and bought the Pink & Cream Flip-Over Floor Tool of the Z65 to use with it... The Z90 & 100 tend to be sought after and quite rare, well how rare is rare, non for years then 2 crop up in weeks etc... Mums friend had a Trident U136 in Blue, she was so chuffed showing mum & me what it did, and couldnt believe how clean the paper bags made emptying!!! Simon would love to se pics of the challenge, nice one to have for your collection!!! Heres the Z100 |

Hi again: Love all the information - Its really filling in the gaps. Si - The Challenge is a really sharp looking machine. Did they make the parts in the red or the ivory? Mike - I've seen the Australian machine before but what is the model number for it? We had a similar one (see below) and it was a Z54. We had three machines out at that time (1953-57). The standard machine ZB55-blue/black, the delux machine Z57-tan/brown and the cheap version Z54-blue/red. I've included a pic of the Z54 here |

Hi Si - yep the item on the back is a halo for wrapping the cord around. It was an optional part (which the salesmen could throw in to close the deal) I have one in grey for the 55 thats still in the original box as well. It screws into the threaded rear cap same as the vaporizer. To my knowledge the vaporizer and sprayer were also optional parts with this machine but I've never found one of the instruction sheets to confirm this. I find it rather ammusing that in the US they considered the dual attahments (comb rug/floor and comb dust/small) to be delux where as the Canadians considered them to be lower line. |
