Here's the list of traits a Kirby 513 should have.

ALL VERSIONS:
Red bumper trim for headlight and nozzle assemblies
Step-on "push on/push off" foot switch
New-style rug plate and brush roll assemblies

EARLY VERSIONS:
3 amp motor (nameplate will also have the older Kirby circle logo)
Long handle assembly with gray handle grip and non-swiveling top cord hook

LATE VERSIONS:
4 amp motor (nameplate will also have the then-current Kirby circle logo)
Long handle assembly with red handle grip and swiveling top cord hook

NOTES: Any of the early 513s that may have the toggle switch and old-style rug plate and brush roll assemblies are rebuilds.
