Why would anyone want to date a vacuum cleaner? Wouldn't a pretty girl be a lot more fun?! hahaha

I could come up with a lot of really bad puns involving sucking and blowing but I simply refuse to go there.

Hi human.

Please DON'T!!! You have no idea how hard it was to keep the sexual remarks out of the club. As for jokes, the V.C.C.C. has heard them for over 30 years, we're sick and tired of it.

I love your subtle irony. I take my hate off to you.

According to Doug Smith's page that model was produced from 1949 to 1955 in England.

Hi Vintagerepairer

Yes, I knew you meant hat!

As I was the man who did all the paperwork for the V.C.C.C. I had to deal with all sorts of things. In those early days I had my mom who was an executive secretary in Chicago cover all lettrers from potential members. Very few people knew this and one member a cross-dresser made his interests known. In a very overt letter asked if he could attend a meeting in drag? As I said, my mom read and answered the letter. Needless to say, he never attended a meeting.

In the mid 80's the 'suck' jokes were out of control, and it was a fulltime job to keep things 'clean.' Problem was that some people thought off color jokes are funny, I don't.

Alex Taber.

Sorry for the pun, broadlands (using your screen name). Couldn't resist!

I'd love to see photos of the complete set, especially the polisher.

I love off color humor and jokes. But then again, my sense of humor is similar to Joan River's sense of humor.

If I had a dime for every time someone came into the Vacuum Museum and said "your job must really suck", I'd be a millionaire. My response is always "if we do our jobs right, they will" (referring to the quality of the Simplicity and Riccar vacuums made in the factory adjacent to the Museum).

I would answer

When someone said "your job sucks." I would reply " Other vacuum cleaners suck."  "We get the dirt."

You know what they say.................................

"All the dirt, all the grit, HOOVER gets it, every bit....."
As fare as sucking.................... I could say plenty. But, I won't....right now, at least.

Electrolux seems to have had a pretty good sense of humor about it. (These are actual ads, and there were several other variations on the theme as well.)

To Andy;

You're young, and have lot's of time to find "the one", but lucky to have the internet to find guy's to meet. In my day, a man who grew up on a farm had to move to a big city, and go to bars to meet anyone at all.
