My family uses a Regina Electrikbroom in our camper that we have had since my Grandma bought it new. We are having a debate about how old this vacuum cleaner is. We have bets on this so it's kind of a big deal.

I have spent some time researching and cannot seem to pinpoint the year. I believe based on info from this forum, that it is between 1968 and 1978. Please help!

Model number B817TD
Serial 456980842

I wish I could help, but I think you are in the ball park with the years. However it does look like the rug nozzle is not installed correctly....unless it just swiveled around.

This isn't an easy question to amswer, Regina made thousands of them with improvements galore!

I tried to locate the info on the 'Rug Rile Dial' which goes back to the late 1960's, but to pin-point the exact year is next to imposible. I'd say your grandma bought it in 67, but that's simply a guess. Go back to how old you were back when you first saw it. The fact that it still works says a lot.

Some history here. Regina was a music box company before adding the non-electric and early electric vacuum cleaners to the line around 1909. They made upright machines in the 1930's and canisters up to the late 1970's (perhaps longer.) As to the Electrikbroom, the first was the model 1 (duh) which came out right after WW11, I think 1949, and I can say that as I have a model 1. The nozel was rubber and it was (is) a great machine. This was when Regina also got into floor polishers.

The Electrikbroom was a favorite of motel chains like Howard Johnson's, and the early Holliday Inn's as they were light, easy to use and fit nicely on a maids cart. In the 50's they were everywhere.

If you contact me at Ralextaber@gmail.com I can provide you with info on the company. Regina was based out of Rahway, New Jersey.

Good luck in your search, but I think 1968 is correct.

A picture of the little square "ratings plate" sometimes can provide clues to the year it was made: the exact way the company is listed, American place of manufacture, motor power etc. If you can upload this to this thread, it may provide more clues to the experts here at Vacuumland.

The brand graphic on the bag indicates pre-1970's, methinks. In the 1970's, Regina started using cloth shrouds that had no writing, just a variety of nice patterns and colours.

Regina

About 1970 seems right.
You can often find household items in older catalogs as a reference.

As above nozzle is backwards.

Fan housing should be turned so both cord hooks are on same side.

Thank you for offering to help. My mom will take a picture of the ratings plate today and send it to me. She lives in a different state.

I'm with Suckolux, although I might even extend the range to '72. That mustard gold was a popular kitchen color during those years.

I would say very late 60s. The serial number usually easily dateable when they are 3 digits. This one is not lol Calling Elektricbroomguru, we need your expertise.

My grandmother had the exact one in green.

The floor nozzle was simpler. She passed in 1973. I believe they bought it (at American Auto) in 1970. They'd use it on bare floors, and then the infamous 28 upright for everything else.

Thank you for posting the ratings plate. Wow...5 amps...that's actually quite powerful for a stick vac of the time. I still say it's from late 1960's because of the old vertical letters on the cloth sheath. The original Electrikbrooms had that but I'm pretty sure that vertical lettering disappeared by 1970. Anyone have some catalogue pages from that era?

if the ratings plate codes the same way as the 70s and 80s then this would be 1968 going by the last 3 digits that are separated from the rest of the serial number

I forgot to write something about the picture. This is a picture of the 'ratings plate'? Hopefully, this will help in identifying the year of this Electrikbroom. I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks.
