Until recently I've been using enviro-care bags in my Electrolux Renaissance. I happened to be near an Aerus dealer just a couple weeks ago and decided to pick up a pack of genuine R style bags and I've been using the first bag from the pack since then. I typically use my central vac around the house so this cleaner doesn't get that much use which is why I'm surprised to see this.
After vacuuming up the house a bit this evening I went to check the bag and noticed this small hole near the bottom of the bag, along with a line of cat hair and dust hanging out of it. Of course now the machine's exhaust area is dustier than usual, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had these issues with their bags. I plan to contact Aerus tomorrow. These aren't the four-ply bags, these are "ultra filtration" and supposedly four times better than the 4 ply version. It really is no where near full, maybe 1/5th full. | ||

Never had a problem with new Aerus bags...
...because I've never used them. I've got a huge supply of type C bags for my canisters and U bags for my Discovery upright, so it'll be a good while before I need to buy any more. The generics are so ridiculously cheap and generally satisfactory that I don't see a reason to step up and pay a premium for a bag with Aerus' name stamped on it.

If I ever manage to use the remaining 23 bags in my pack for this vacuum then I will surely be going back to generic. I'd still like to find a synthetic version.
As far as I'm aware I have not picked up anything sharp, this is just from a bit of general vacuuming of my house-mostly cat hair. I'm overall somewhat unhappy with how thin these bags feel as well. | ||

Seem like those bags are made from weak paper.If they perform like that you can use them up quickly!!You should make a "homemade" motor safety filter for your vacuum in the meantime so the stuff from the burst bags won't get into your "Lux fan. | ||

I called Aerus and sent them my bag. It did not rip, but the inner ply's split open and leave just the blue bag showing. They reported it and sent me a new pack of bags. I actually went to Ebay and bought some Electrolux Surething and Germgrabber Bags to keep me going until they seem to get the problem fixed. I don't want dirt getting inside the motor. This has been a few years back, I believe I posted it on the forum back then....? I will say this. I would not be afraid to use 4ply DVC Bags as I use them in a friend of mines electrolux that I gave him. He has two cats and I use a c bag every 3 to 4 weeks filled and the dirt compartment is never coated with dust. Once I use my NOS Electrolux Bags, I will go back to the DVC Brand, however, if you have the more powerfull Electrolux Ultra Guardian, I would not use DVC, it is too powerful and would probably break the bags. I had one and got rid of it due to the suction control on it was so small, it didn't cut down on the suction much and my sidekick would stall on my couch and the dusting brush stuck to the table tops. One more question. Have you checked the packaging they came in? Sometimes coming through the mail the plastic can get ripped or the box damaged, which in turn ripped a bag. PR-21 Bud | ||

I actually already have a carbon filter stuck in the back of the bag compartment! So my motor is protected to a certain extent, but I'd still prefer that genuine bags not get holes in them.
Thanks for the tip on DVC bags. I've noticed that my machine gets the dusty film inside it far quicker with genuine bags than it did with the Enviro-Care bags that I was using, even before the hole developed. This was not something I was expecting from genuine bags. I wish they'd just make synthetic style R bags, I'd feel a lot better using those honestly. I just looked at the other bags in the box and some of them do have what look like small dimples around the same area the problem bag had them at, I'll post photos after I get some sleep. I wonder if these may have just broke out into holes after maybe 4 or 5 uses with this bag? I will be calling Aerus in the morning, I'll be sure to update with how that goes and the photos of the other bags. | ||

I'm wondering if the package was damaged in some way. Maybe had something rubbing I transit.

The packaging has no signs of damage, and I've included a photo of the little marks I mentioned. I'm a bit busy at the moment so I'll be calling Aerus in a few hours.

HEPA Type R bags
There ARE synthetic, HEPA bags for the Renny/Guardian Luxes. I found them I ebay fairly cheap.Or just go to evacuumstore.com, that's the maker of these bags and where I get my synthetic bags for my 1205/Silverado/6000 using Type C bags and my Regency Series upright using Type U bags.

Generic Type C Bags
are fantastic!
Here goes: So I have an epic 6500 Vacuum, A Rainbow, and a Shark Bagless upright. I use the rainbow and the Shark the most. My laundry room small vacuum that I keep in there died, so I moved the lux in there as I have always had a bagged vacuum in the laundry room to keep it clean from lint, etc. I will get to my point now. The past few years I've used my shark for quick daily run throughs, and I use my Rainbow when I clean high and low. When the shark bin needs emptying, I use my epic 6500 to suck the bin clean and the filters clean in the shark. This keeps emptying the vac being messy to a minimum and I suck the filters clean too, which keeps the shark running in tip top shape. I don't mind doing this because the generic c bags are so freaking cheap. A box of 100 on Ebay was 39.95. Here's the big thing. With all that nasty crap getting sucked into the lux bag, after it's about 75% full I change it. I get a white damp cloth and wipe the bag chamber out, and there's amazingly ZERO dirt that shows on the rag. It shocked the hell out of me because all of the lux bags feel kind of cheap to me, even the genuine ones....but they work so freaking well. I know it's really dumb to have a bagged vacuum to keep a bagless vacuum clean, but this setup works really well for me. I can't say the same for the Kenmore/Panasonic can's. As much as I love them, there was always dust in the chamber, but never my lux. How there is not a trace of dust in the bag chamber is beyond me, you would think there would be at least a little. | ||
