Hi all! As most of you know, I've looked for a very special G.E. Swivel-Top for around 25 years or so. The model C-100 with power nozzle. Well, as of yesterday through the generosity of two fellow collectors, I HAVE ONE!! Needless to say I'm thrilled and I can't thank these two enough. It's in great shape and works beautifully. Why G.E. couldn't sell them, I don't know. Pictures WILL be coming tomorrow. Toby G.

Congrats!

Wow Toby, you must be over the moon! It's always great to find your holy grail, and it couldn't have gone to a nicer guy. Looking forward to the pics!

I first saw your 'holy grail' at Mike's home, years ago. I'm so happy you now have it. Although we've never met, Hans has told me what a great guy you are. Congratulations on that very special GE. Why they had to put the power nozzle on a "Low boy" model instead of the double-fan 'deluxe' model is beyond me. But it's a very rare, and desirable find. Again, Congratulations.

Toby, that is indeed a rare beauty! I can see why it was at the top of your, "Holy Grail", list.

Hang on to it and enjoy.

Thanks guys! Tom, Hans and I have had that same conversation many times about the Lowboy canister. Do you happen to have one of these G.E.s in the meuseum? Yes, I will enjoy this machine for many years. Andy, you're absolutely right, Terry's LX made the pics because I know he'd be very happy for me too and probably one of the first to call and tell me. Toby G.

Low boy?

That's an amazing cleaner, should clean up well! "Low boy" is a new term to me, would someone help me out with that?

Low Boy--

--was introduced about 1958 and was the first with the wider bottom(motor) half and more narrow top(bag)half with the entire vac being shorter.First was gray/white with orange attachments.Later models included shades of brown and blue with the color styling including hoses, cords & attachments. The deluxe models were bigger and often included cordwinders and attachment trays. All GE 'Swivel Tops'were great long life vacs.
But the above with power nozzle and unique colors has to be the greatest and rarest. While the other GEs sold well the combination of a new nozzle that many would not be familiar with and mostly the higher price seems to leave almost none of these to be found today.
It is also interesting that the better cleaning power nozzle on the GE(and AirWays)meant that the swivel intakes could no longer fully swivel.

They must not have

Made these for long. although I don't understand why. it is very advanced for 1962!. it has a geared belt like a Electrolux pn. and the belt runs about a inch or so from the end of the brushroll so it can edge clean and it has a light. the motor is odd in that its not a drop in motor but actually built into the housing. it performs wonderfully. I took it apart and lubricated all the bearings and it really grabs up the cat hair as well as fine grit. I was amazed. if this had not been Tobys holy grail. I would have kept it!
