Could someone fill me in on the difference between the Kirby Heritage and Heritage84? I've seen both models on eBay but I'm sure my neighbors had an 84 model before 1984. I know it's a crazy question, but one of those curious things I'd like to know.

I used to do some cleaning for them (I'd vacuum for anyone if they had a machine different than my parent's) and they really didn't like the machine, they traded it on a Heritage2 which was easier to handle. But, they hung onto their bronze colored Electrolux model G and would bring it out for the bare floors and above the floor stuff.

'84 was the first commemorative model

and ran in 1984 only. 1984 was the year of "big Borther is watching" hence the big deal about the year.
The Heritage '84 was the end of the Heritage I model, it was replaced by the Heritage II at the end of that year.
What I find most interesting is the lengths they went to put the "84" on the cleaner...handle, bag, hub caps... etc...

That's a interesting explanation. Since I diden't live during that era, but am aware of the whole "big brother" 1984 deal, could you tell me a bit more about this. I never knew it was that big of a deal as to go so far as to label vacuums differently and such.

You'll see why 1984 won't be like 1984...

Apple did a huge ad for their Macintosh computer (first Mac by the way) playing on the George Orwell theme. So 1984 was quite a year for many things..Kirbys and Apple alike.

It was probably only a big dela for Kirby

who turned their kinda ugly Heritage I model into a commemorative model just by adding "84" to the label. SO...'84 models are a limited edition thing, and kinda collectible. I bought one 2 The same idea is behind the anniversary model G4's and the G6 2000 and 2001 models.

As for the year, sorry you were not around for it, it was a good year!

i agree with you!

kirby even went as far as putting "heritage 84" on the lable under the powerplant, which they did not do on the g-4 80th anniversary edition, or the gsix 2000, and 2001 limited editions. what i dont understand is why they didnt make a 90 anniversary model.
