They may not be Kosher Kirby's but they're beautiful.

I have a fully restored D50 and I love to use it.

Dwayne,

It lies in the fact this Kirby Sanitronic 562, VII or Dual Sanitronic 50 has been re-trimmed blue throughout.

If it doesn't have original color trim or bag, then it's a Frankenkirby!

Well, that ain't the worst thing which could happen! Such as...The dread factory rebuild sticker slapped on the bottom of it -- Oh, the horror!!!surprised

Nothing wrong with a factory rebuild! Sure it's not original as it was new. But all genuine parts my 512 has

It was rebuilt in the 60s and again in 87. Still have all the original paper work from each rebuild and purchase receipt from 1952.

I've refurbished my G5 with genuine Kirby parts, but not necessarily G5 parts. Functionally, it's at least as good as new and there's probably not another one in the world exactly like it. To me, that's part of its charm. It's a Kirby but it's also an original.

Frank vs. Bo

human's profile picture
I've been thinking about the distinction between a FrankenKirby (or other brand) and a bojack machine and to my mind it comes down to the use of OEM vs. third party generic components. If you're redoing a machine with genuine OEM parts (i.e., original brand parts for or from other models from the same manufacturer) it's a FrankenKirby or Frankenwhatever. If it has generic, third party, generally inferior quality parts, then it's bojack.

Just my $0.02, feel free to disagree.
