I also have collected two DS50's in the last few weeks, how does the cloth bag release from the emptor housing. The manual says that there is a spring holding the cloth bag in place, I would like to remove and wash both bags but am afraid of ripping the bag! |

Excellent machine for the price, Christine. See how easily the extra parts just seem to appear, when yer on a roll? Yer gonna love it! Congratulations. They are the best thing for carpets, especially if you have wall-to-wall, as is a Hoover upright with a beater bar. I didn't think much of Kirbys - if I thought of them at all - til I found a free Heritage II abandoned at curbside, then Pete gave me a blue Tradition. Next thing ya know I'm finding all the missing bits like the polisher and shampoo heads here and there, generous collectors are sending spare parts and now I have 4 complete Kirbys with the green Santronic 80 and the G3. I suppose now I'll have to have one of each and your's is a work of Art with the light up logo. Dave |

My church is a huge 1200 seat church. I used that Kirby Omega. Then, I persuaded the pastor to "invest" in a HOOVER Guardsman (Chrome, red 1076 type hood), plus tools. Miles and miles of carpeting (red) came to life. My first experience with this model was at the seminary (don't ask). It is one of my few "would like to haves". All of my "must haves" are here, I think. Those Kirbys are heavy and expensive. I must say that I DO appreciate those who love them.

I have yet to burn a belt on any of my Kirbys, I change them usually ever 6 months just for my own piece of mind even though I could probably stand to go a little longer. I remember my mother use to always burn up belts on her Heritage when she had it, but she would also set the nozzle too close to the floor. I like the newer ribbed belts, it does make a difference to me. What I was told at one time was that if your old belt is stretched to the point that a new-unused belt can fit inside it, then it's time to change. Hope that helps a little! Cory |

Thanks, I'll buy the Kirby brand... Wow, that's great but I guess the head design to motor impeller whatever its called has not been changed on the new models just the bells & whistles... LOL |

Royal gave this warning w knurled belts... So would the kirby brush roll be a sleeve bearing design? How can you tell the difference between the brush roll ends? Thanks |

Some of the older Kirby brush rolls were brass sleeve. The G series, as least the one in my UG is roller bearings. I am not sure what type of bearing Royal uses. |

you can use a extension cord to test it out, as long as it will fit in the opening. the plastic sleve goes on the bottom part that connects to the base, i just took mine apart yesterday to polish it (and man does it look good!) and i noticed the plastic sleeve on the bottom part. the spring you have went inside of your handle (top part) thats for the swiveled cord hook. plug it in and turn it on!, i bet you cant wait!

Keep that spring and the 'speed nut'. When you get an upper cord hook you'll see that the spring keeps the hook snug against the handle against stop bumps. The spring-loaded upper hook rotates to release the bundle of wound up cord loops. Now, I'm not sure this model has the rotating hook but I bet dollars to donuts it does. Someone with a D50 should take a closeup pic of the hook for us and Christine. Luv your infectious enthusiasm, Christine. Dave |

Sometimes I sprinkle it on the carpet but wondering if it clogs/coats bag & fan etc? Patch worked its ironed inside & used it to reinforce a few weak areas sewn the top of bag where it has loose threads & now it's a nice lil machine |
