I picked up a little GE tank/canister today at an estate sale. I was excited to have something "modern" in the collection. I cleaned it up and runs great. The hose is airtight and suction is great. I even had the twin brush rug tool to try with it.

I was on vacation last week and cleaned EXTRA good with the FQ Princess, as the house sitter was coming to take care of the two dogs and one cat. Its only been six days since the DNC (dustin-N-cleanin).

After giving the little GE a test run with a new bag and cleaned filter, I was pleased with the results (see picture). The carpet looked great, nap up, groomed. I grew up with a GE canister. If it was good enough for my mom, it must be ok right? She was, still is, OCD when it comes to cleaning and carpets. Guess I got it from her.( That carpet better be vacuumed when she got home from work every day. Joan didn't have anything on her)!

I remembered a salesman's kit I had stuck back for the filter queen (I am trying to get ALL the oddities for FQ) and it had a "dirt-scope". I was inspired. Now was the perfect time to try it out. It was all there, NOS with filters, lamp and sales book. Even confetti and a bag of nuts and bolts to suck up? ( a intoxicated ebay buy i think) I decided to give a whirl. I didn't expect much as my housekeeping was bar none, I thought, top notch. I was shocked and surprised, to say the least. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

The Filterqueen seems to outshine all the competition. (except for my first love, Rainbow/Rexair and my Airway ,thank you Tania) I just wish they were as interesting design wise, as all the others I have collected. If you have seen one FQ, you basically have seen them all, right? (this is not an insult to the other brands, just MY observation, no wars please!)
I will reserve the collection for the tile and wood floors going forward. Cant wait to see your comments!

Footnote:
The carpet is less than a year old, the pets only go out for walks on concrete and pavement and cross three mats coming in, and I am not a bad housekeeper. As most of us, I am usually trying out a different vac two to three times a week and finish up with my regular deep clean on Saturdays. My excuse is my partner has allergies :) I think I could sell these.

Did GE

pioneer the rectangular style for canisters? It seems that in the mid 1960's, Sunbeam, Lewyt, Kenmore, Shetland, then Eureka all began the rectangle styling. Slowly moving away from the canned ham, and round styles.
Hoover was the exception. They brought out the squareish pancake with the self storing hose, the Slimline, then saucer shaped Celebrity series.

I would say that Whirlpool pioneered the rectangular canister vacuum in the 1950's along with their revolutionary power nozzle for canisters. They were sold as Kenmores in Sears stores as well.
