A few months ago I bought a Kirby Classic III on Craigslist, and have been slowly fixing it up with some new and used parts, some genuine, others, not so much...

One of the parts that needed replacement was the original "filter felt" bag which leaked dust badly and covered the machine with a layer of fine dust in minutes. I probably should have never washed the thing as the only thing preventing it from leaking when the previous owner had it was the clogged pores.

So into the local shop it went and they told me they could get an OEM bag from Essco for around $125 or a DVC shake out for around $35. Considering that I did not want to deal with the costs of shipping on eBay I decided to buy the DVC. When I got it, I realized that it was rather thin but figured that if pre Classic III Kirbys were fine with thinner bags it wouldn't be that bad.

Lets go with the list of Problems:
-slightly too thin, leaks small amount of dust
-Sani-Pocket made of very thin nylon like material, blows dust out of zipper and
fills pocket
-1/2 inch too short, handle wont stay up while running
-stitching very weak around spring that connects it to the emptor, already torn in
one weeks use, spring is visible on inside, and leaking even MORE dust.

While the quality was abysmal the pattern looked very good.

***A memo to others, DON'T buy the DVC shakeout Kirby filter bag.***

Anyone else made this mistake?

As for me, Bill at Bell Sweeper, my go to shop, is getting in contact with Essco to see what they can do to rectify the problem.

Eventually I will get around to showing a before and after on this Machine

When reading this I thought God that price of 125 was high so I logged into my essco account and sadly they're pretty spot on. The bag is about $90 plus shipping and of course a little mark up. It's the shipping that kills us vac repair ppl. We can actually these days pay more for parts on amazon and still spend less because of cheaper or free shipping.

example I ordered last month 5 packs of Kirby bags, a Kirby fan, a eureka brushroll, and 5 packs of dial a matic bags. all came in a small box with a $25.00 shipping price. Geesh I can buy a whole vacuum from ebay and pay less shipping
