I got a new cat earlier this year. She is a Bengal maniac named Lucy Furr.
Earlier, I was vacuuming her cat tree with my Hoover Windtunnel 2 Rewind Pet. Lucy was on the very top of the tree. When I held the upholstery tool close to her, she started smacking it! I thought it was cute and funny. I have uploaded a video below. Is Lucy afraid or mad? |

She's brave because she is a Bengal cat. Bengal's are a cross breed of a standard Tabby cat and an Asian Leopard cat. Bengal's are not only more intelligent than a regular cat, but much braver as well. I know because I have one. My Bengal cat PJ tries to intimidate my Kirby Sentria by lying down on the floor directly in the path of where I am vacuuming as if to say "Go Around Me". I have to yell at him to get him to move or I would probably need to bump him with the Kirby. He's that stubborn. |

My friend has a bengal cat and the cat is very intelligent. He's a male cat. He only miaows in a very strange accent when something is wrong. When she was about to leave home for work, the cat kept pawing at her feet and miaowing strangely as he walked towards the closed kitchen door and sat down at the door looking up at her and pawing the floor. Whereupon she discovered that the kitchen taps had been left on and was nearly in risk of flooding the kitchen floor!
The cat also adores water. Which is highly unusual. |

My cat prince is a Bengal mixed with an Egyptian mau and he's absolutely terrified of vacuums. As soon as he sees a vacuum he's gone faster than you can say cat. When I carry him and hold him and I walk by a vacuum he immediately either jumps out of my arms or he turbo drives himself out of my grip to get away. Most of the time I get cuts and scratches from this. My other cat princess (calico) is not afraid of vacuums much at all. She just simply stays where she is or walks away sometimes. Like humans, Cats have different fears and personalities.

Lucy sure is a brave girl, but not always.
A little later that day, I was using the crevice tool attached to the extension wand. I pointed it at her, and she ran away! I guess she doesn't like the extra noise that the crevice tool makes. Conversely, my Siamese cat Musashi is afraid of vacuums. If I vacuum a bedroom and he is sleeping on one of the beds, he will run away. A few days ago, I went to vacuum downstairs and Musashi was walking around my Hoover. Upon turning it on, he bolted upstairs. Today, I showed the video to my mom, and she got a kick out of it. I asked her if any of my late cats of various breeds attacked the vacuum (when I was little), and she said that they would all run away upon seeing or hearing the vacuum. |

I used to have a tabby cat, Havoc, who was terrified of vacuums. As soon as I turned it on, she'd run and hide and I wouldn't see her for a good two hours after I'd shut the thing off and put it away. She would take no chances of an encore.
The calico I have now, Lily, is less fearful, although she gives them a wide berth when they're running. Unlike Havoc, she will stay in the room and watch the proceedings with a cautious and disdainful eye. The one vac she seems most frightened of is my Filter Queen. She will leave the room when I fire that beast up but will then come back to watch once she's determined that it's not out to get her. |
