Is my kirby classic an effective cleaner or just an ancient dust spewer. I really like it, I still have the original bag and sani emptor on it. Should I sell it and buy a new vacuum or get a bag system on it or just keep it the way it is?

What about those classic Kirby models...

My grandparents just retired their 1965 Kirby DS50 and replaced it with a G6 I sent them. While my grandfather claims that with regular brush roll, belt and bag replacements, it can clean just as good as a new one.

Now I don't know if that's true, but there has to be something different in brush roll and bag design. So I am also curious.

On a great note, my grandmother can now vacuum again using Tech-drive on the G6. She feels so much more independence and love their G6.

Guess it all depends on who you ask,,,id have to say that with a newer bag system upgrage, using G series bags, and a 4 row, or newer brush roll, and brand new belt,, and brand new,or original fan(in good shape, with no nicks, cuts or missing blades),, the Classic Omega is an excellent and HIGHLY effective cleaning machine, built like a tank!

But, Keep in mind that back in 1973, when the Omega was first introduced, the whole concept of "Hepa" or high Micron filtration hadnt come to light yet,(at least for Kirby anyway),,so, an Omega with an original shake out bag, and Emptor of course wont "Filter" the dust and dirt as well as a G Series bag.

It is true that a brand new shake out bag will "filter" dust and dirt better than an old one, of course.

Chris....

I havent't yet done it myself yet, but you can buy a new Kirby gold bag for the Classic which is also the same for the Omega. Then, take it to an experienced seamstress and a zipper installed along the back. Then, you will need a inner fill tube and bag adapter kit, but I don't recall which one will fit it.

Now, I am not sure where it is now, but there was a thread from Jeff P that Illustrates how he did. His screen name is hoover1060...contact him for the details.

Kirby Classic

Hi Chris Your Kirby Classic is a FINE MACHINE. I also have it and love it. May i ask you to do two things 1 Check to see if you have the brush roll with two brushes on each side giving you a total of four brushes( that will inprove your cleaning 100%. Then orde a new classic bag the Red Plad. You can call Kirby and they will sell it to you. The last thing you can do is send it back to Kirby for a rebuild IT will come back like a bran new Kirby. What ever you do the classic truely is a classic. I hope i have helped you .Take care Doug
