Here's just two of the goodies I found today, the Deluxe Convertible was at our Anastasia's Attic, for $10.00. I like the all white scheme with just a touch of blue trim. Unfortunately, there is a split on the front of the bumper.

The Jet-Flo

arh1953's profile picture
This is a two tone green, the stick-on trim is a little worse for the wear, and the brown cord has been taped up. It has the Good Housekeeping Seal Of Approval on the top of the bag housing.

More pics of the Jetflo if you can, Alan :)

I saw a Hitachi like that Jetflo (nearly typed Jetfro then, how unintentionally racist of me) once, early CV model or something..unfortunatly it was on some wasteland and in two neat halves, and that's the only one I ever saw.

Hmph.

I found it in The Mustard Seed, on US 1 in Port St. Lucie. They had a maroon one last year, but I wasn't moved.

Hoover ?

Alan, what model nbr. is the convertible. I've never seen that color combo. I'm thinking maybe the hood was replaced at one time.

Oh The Horror!!

arh1953's profile picture
It's two tone blue! A combination of yellowed plastic, surface dirt, and who knows what else! I just opened it for the pics. Also they are not stick on decals for the model name or trim, they are metal. There is a vacuum shop sticker from Pompano Beach, Fla. on the bag opening. It must have been quite a looker in its day.

Rick, the Hoover is Model U4341, Serial# 00027876. The identity sticker says type C bag, but I pulled a type A out, with the half connected top fill tube. The tube says "Made In Taiwan". It had been a while since it was used.

He can be a looker again, Alan :)

Just need to crack open a tin of elbow grease..

(elbow grease is a british euphamism for hard work, usually related to cleaning..I dunno if you have it too Alan :P)

Love the colour too Alan, i'm told these green ones are some of the first Jetflo's from the late 1970s or something.

We have elbow grease here also. Unfortunately, it is really two toned blue. The age and neglect yellowed it. I'd love to see a real green one though.

Well, the two toned blue ones were the first..lol.

I'm just going on what Reggie (compactc9) told me lol.

Looks good though, think you'll dare to try a full strip down and rebuild on this'un? heh you're braver than me, especially if it's put together anything like the Dial A Matic.

I think I'm going to give it a good cleaning and see what comes of it. I haven't disassembled any vacuums yet.

Post# 35046 , Reply# 15   3/17/2008 at 17:29 (5,854 days old) by ian88 ()

I find most of the Vacuums i've aquired/found worked just fine without any mechanical TLC from me at all, there's maybe one exception.

I'd like to see the same with a Dyson, they seem to manage a years average use then pack up for god. My Dad and Bro were up the tip once, casually eyeing the Vacuums for my benefit..all Dysons, most of which apparently looked brand new.

Not the first time he's seen stuff like that, lol.

It is a shame that these vacuums you mentioned can't be repaired, or easily repaired. I had to throw out two newer electric fans because no one would touch them. I have two black plastic Eurekas, one a tank, the other an upright, and I don't look forward to discarding them if they're anything like the fans. I don't want to see any of our dumps, I'd be horrified into a coma.

The earlier Dysons are a bit better, I tell you mate..it's NOT a co incidence that the quality went down the pan the second Dyson transferred production to Malaysia.

British jobs for British people I say :p

I'm sure you know it's the same here. I'd love to see manufacturing return to the countries of their products origins.

This is what I always say; If I want a Chinese Vacuum Cleaner, it'll be from a Chinese company.

The same with Japan, Russia, Eastern Europe, Germany, Britain or any country you can name, none of this outsourcing rubbish..

Most strange in the one picture it looks green in the other it looks blue, to me anyways. Never seen green or blue ones, just the cream/burgandys, the all reds, all blacks, all burgandies. If you go to toss it out try and save the motor. I'm looking for one for that red commercial of mine.

The Panasonic in reality is dark/light blue combo, dirt and age turned it green. The inside of the panel shows light blue, since it was never exposed to sunlight. No matter what, colors seldom come up right with a lot of these cameras.

So you gonna keep the Jetflo, Alan? the colour scheme really is lovely in my opinion. :)

Just needs a bit of hard work and perserverance, maybe get the dodgy brown stuff off the cleaning head label. ;p

Progress pics if you can mate, lol.

Rick~

The hood on that convertible is correct; it's the bag that's wrong.

I'll snap a picture of mine later.

Hoover bag, Panasonic badges

Thanks Fred, I think the mostly white color scheme is interesting though. Ian, the dodgy brown stuff unfortunately is rust. There is a celophane film or something on both of the labels, I had hoped maybe the brown crud was dirt instead. The rust will come off, but so will the painted logos. I'll excercise care. Pete, I think I'll keep this thing, but I'll peel my eyes for a parts or complete unit for you.

I thought it was rust but I was like "nahhh"

I guess you could find a donor badge, lol.

That would be a project. I keep turning down a 5 inch Emerson Color tv-radio because the stick on escutcheon trimwork is peeling off. They never look the same when you correct them. When I look for the bags I'll see if they might have any old machines laying around.

Post# 35103 , Reply# 30   3/18/2008 at 07:50 (5,854 days old) by ian88 ()

Of course you should try to get a matching badge, although from what i've seen the writing on them is all the same, it's only the colours that are different.

I guess a brown and white/cream one wouldn't make much difference.

Hehe, you live in another country Alan and yet I really want this Jetflo to work out. :D

You're just that kinda guy Ian. I want to see all my pals in this club make good too. And speaking of colors, the handle is brown, as is the cord. Whatever I might end up with may be complementary to the strange scheme. And I bought the "green" vacuum on St. Patrick's Day. Too bad it's really blue, although I love blues.

Post# 35105 , Reply# 32   3/18/2008 at 08:11 (5,854 days old) by ian88 ()

It's such a cute little thing, and imo it's one the coolest colour schemes ever :P along with the Lux 504 and 500.

I presume it does actually fire up? I imagine so it being old Panasonic.

Hadn't tried it yet, but I bought it from a place that is notorious for chucking out things that don't meet their standards. I haven't been disappointed yet, but I'll try it today when I come out of my nap.

Well, I just tried it out, and it had a really good tone, rather quiet, compared to other products of that vintage. It pushed easily, and picked up the nap on the rug. It cleans pretty well, but definitely needs bags. I hope I can still get them here. I'll be checking the internet also.

Moved by the Spirit

arh1953's profile picture
St. Martin De Porres in Jensen Beach had this, complete and with 2 packs 2 per, for a little more than I wanted to pay. But I wanted the Quadraflex Powermatic. It is the palest pale green, and grey. It was today's only vacuum find. It was irresistable, even for the price.

You shouldn't take on too much at a time Alan ;]

That's not a criticism of course dude, if I were you i'd be putting all my downtime into the Jetflo though.

The Jet-Flo will be getting its beauty treatment real soon. With 5 vacuums in 3 days, I need to slow down with the spending. The new Spirit was screaming "BUY ME!!!!!!"

I admit, the Spirit is an elegant design..

Alas, after the 80s it all seemed to go down the pan for the Vacuum industry, that new Miele upright Mike mentions is the best looking new cleaner i've ever seen, lol.

A Hoover Futura with 4.3 peak hp and a power head came into my life the same day I bought the Panasonic. It is much newer, and considered a disposable vacuum, but it is much classier than a lot of the new canisters. It's black, grey, and has a silvery electric hose. Picture pending, I misplaced the powerhead.
