I've been having a dry spell lately when it comes to vintage vacuums. I was just about to give up, until I found this beauty last night...

I almost fell over when I saw this Eureka had the original box top bag, and then almost fell over again when I realized it was a power touch model! I have been after one of these models for such a long time and I couldn't be more excited.

It runs pretty well, a little dry, but nothing that can't be fixed. It's a little rough on the edges, I haven't had a chance to get it cleaned up yet. It's definitely a cool vacuum though, very ahead of its time. The only info I can find about it online is a couple of Mother's Day advertisements from Eureka.

Here she is! It matches so well with my roommates plants and my rug!

The bottom -- you can faintly see someone's name etched into the bottom plate.

Ahhh...a beautiful "Continental" Cordaway Rugulator Vibra-Groomer Upright from about 1978. That should clean up really nicely!

Eureka. The very best in vacuum cleaners.

Enjoy your new toy! Now all you need is some nice luxurious wall-to-wall carpeting to show off its cleaning prowess! :-)

Very nice vac, love the simple retractable cord reel - Cordaway was an Electrolux trademark from the mid 60's

Notice the Eureka rugulator

I'm happy for you.  It's an avocado dream come true.  I've had similar dreams.

Like Prince said, now all you need is some similar shaded shag carpet to make it complete.

Prince- "The very best in vacuum cleaners. " ?   Really ?!   Don't get me wrong, I love me a cute Turtle vac or a Prince, especially if they have a pn, but am I wrong in thinking they aren't exactly .....state of the art? lol

Haha Meegan! That was the Eureka Williams' slogan in the late 1960's...I just love its quiet confidence....nothing cutesy or preachy.

The term "Cordaway" is a take off of the word "corduroy" and was copyrighted by Eureka Williams in the early 1960's. The copyright was transferred to Sweden's AB Electrolux when they bought Eureka Williams in 1974.

That's the one! It had been listed for 37 minutes when I found it.

I've been using it like crazy the past two days, it seems much more powerful compared to my Vanguard. I'm really excited to get it all cleaned out and sounding good pretty soon.

Did yours come out before or after the vanguard?

I believe my Vanguard is from the early 70s, here's a photo of it. It's much quieter than this one that's for sure.

I would have thought this Continental was from the early 70s but apparently it's from 78! The color definitely represents that.

Believe it or not, the very first Cordaway Vanguard with Box-Top bag came out in 1968 or 1967. It had no Rugulator. The Rugulator version with the Vibra-Groomer brushroll debuted a few years later, maybe around 1970 (Model 2070 I think - matched the year). The Golden Vanguard with the flatter motor-head came out in 1972 (Model 2072). The model numbers increased with the addition of features - from the bare-bones 2012 with the Dial-a-Nap to 2042, 2062, 2072, up to the 2082 and 2092 with its chrome motor head.

With the addition of the Edge Kleener notches in the base plate, the models increased by one number a year later: 2013, 2043, 2073, 2083, etc.

The Continentals debuted in 1978.

So I did a little research on the name on the bottom of the Eureka: Rick Wanke. I googled his name followed by Chicago (where I bought the vacuum), and if it's the same person then my Cordaway has a pretty cool history!

I've attached a link to the website that I found.
