Well, what can I say? The last week really has been a vacuum filled one, and the funny thing is I wasn't even actively looking for any - but rather just happened to see the adverts on Gumtree whilst browsing other things.

This is a red Sebo X1.1 which was for sale at £10. Of course at that price there had to be an issue, and that was described in the listing as being "noisy". When I collected it the owner demonstrated the noise and it was indeed a very loud high pitched whistle. They thought it was an air leak somewhere but didn't investigate as she was glad for an excuse to replace it due to the weight. So in the boot it went and today I got around to investigating the noise...

I'll let you guess the cause.

Go on...

Well, if you guessed "blockage in the hose" then you would be absolutely correct.

Two pieces of card had partially blocked the hose which caused the high pitched whistle, but as it was still working adequately and didn't trigger the blockage light, they obviously didn't think that was the issue or didn't care to look.

It came with six spare genuine bags and one fitted. All that I need to buy is new filters and as the belt is toothed and not easy to replace, I'll not bother with that until it eventually snaps - if that ever happens in its lifetime.

I will of course give it a clean up and polish at some point, but for now it is working perfectly and for £10 I'm not complaining.

If anybody knows roughly what year this would be from I'd be grateful! She had owned it from new so in hindsight I should have asked, but for some reason it slipped my mind. I'm thinking it is circa 2010 but could be wrong.

With regards to my views on it - I am very impressed. I of course knew that these models were very good cleaners, but was slightly skeptical of the automatic height adjustment. After testing it thoroughly, it is actually alright! It takes a few seconds to get to the right height when changing pile, but once it gets there it is accurate and definitely easier than adjusting manually.

Good Lord! They aren't worth that much here but still a lot more than I paid. Even the bags alone could probably sell for £10.

There's two little date wheels in the bag door that will tell you the date of the machine.

As I was told by Turbo500, this was a Euronics special.

I honestly cant remember from when, possibly from 2001 upto about 2011? I'm not 100% sure on the dates though. Apart from the bag door dating system. This also ran alongside the white X1.1.

Nice find, I'm quite jealous actually as I almost had my hands on one a year ago :P

Ah, can't believe I didn't look there! Will do that tonight and see. Yes I do vaguely remember a thread in which Chris talked about his red Sebo and it being a Euronics special. I think this might be the one vacuum I own that gets his seal of approval!!

To state the obvious, you got a great deal.

Another smashing find! Afraid I can't really help with info on this.

Next thing you know you'll find another dyson!

Congrats, looks in great shape.

Scott

Its not the X4 as in the red U.S model

The X1.1 is indeed what you have and what a find, Jamie - well done, yet again!

The X1.1 is NOT the same model as the X4 in the U.S - UK prices are substantially cheaper - £200 to £300 which is roughly $287-35 to $431-02 and the X4 in the U.S comes with a 1300 watt motor - this one Jamie has (et al) is 1150 watts, which was released before the EU law came into play. SEBO X uprights now have an 1100 watt motor to comply with the EU law.

Its always interesting to read what established members feel when they eventually get a SEBO upright.

Well even though I said "I know this is an X4" which could be taken as acknowledgement that it wasn't an X1, and that I was aware of such.  I was unable to locate an X1 for price compare, however, even with the pricing you quote $237-$431, it still makes the tener he paid a good deal.

Still a great find Jamie.

Youll find it difficult to compare because the X1.1 was only made for the U.K and originally replaced the X1 Automatic/Windsor Sensor body style.

The X4 Clear model was a U.S only upright in clear acrylic style plastic (still is as far as I'm aware). Seems SEBO caters well for its busiest markets with specialised models.

"Next thing you know you'll find another dyson!"

Don't say that Scott!! The thought of another Dyson in this house makes me anxious.

Now now, Jamie, you know that's not true....you own Electrolux's! :)

Ha! The Electroluxes are getting rather decrepit now though to be fair, bar the 502S which is almost fully retired.

I think I might be able to make a space for that 502S, should you need more room for you 'oovah's ;)

Excellent find, Jamie! It's amazing how many Sebo's you can find on second hand sites and carboots. :)

Just to give a quick update, I checked the bag door and it dates from 2005, so quite an early model!  It doesn't look 11 years old.

The plastics on the X series in general can take fairly heavy abuse. Even white marks can be taken out with a little bit of cream cleanser and a soft sponge.

£10 is the best bargain I have ever heard on a SEBO X1.1 so of course you've got a major bargain, there!

Even my second hand SM1 wasn't as cheap as yours but still worth a punt at £60 given that its like an X4 but with manual height adjustment.

Meant to say JM, just give the cone filter a wipe down with a dry cloth. They can last for ages provided they've not come from a home full of dogs. Also invest the longer extension suction tube if you have stairs to clean. The tools are pretty durable and last a long time just like the vac!
