Can anyone tell me the main differences of these two models from the 90's? Which one is preferable for standard home cleaning?
Looking for some opinions on these Royals!
Thanks!

Bill

Bill,

Here is what I could find out about these two Royal metal vacuums:

Royal 1020z - This is a commercial version of the Royal Metal vacuum. It has a 10 amp motor with blue zippered bag and blue 50 ft. power cord. Since this is a commercial version, it is a very basic machine with infinite SCREW height adjustment and NO headlight.

Royal 9700 - This is a Top of The Line residential vacuum that has a maroon bag and maroon 40 ft. power cord. This machine has a 7 amp motor with 5 position foot pedal height adjustment and it does have a headlight. This is one of the rare Royal models that has fancy chrome wheel covers.

Both of these machines are able to use the new Royal cloth filterette HEPA bag.

Great Information!

Thank you so much! Enjoyed the video immensely. Boy the Royal just killed that Dyson! Well, I ended up buying a 9700 from July of 1990. Let me ask a question or two.

1. 1990 was the year I heard was when the changed from a 6 blade to a 9 blade fan. I read some where that March of that year and earlier units had the 6 blade and afterwards had the 9 inch. I am hoping that my purchase is the 9 blade. Do you think it is? How can one tell without breaking the unit down?

2. The Green light indicator was mentioned by the seller as not working so either the wrong type brush roll or incorrectly install roll was used or the bulb burned out. Where can I source extra bulbs for the indicator light if need be?

3. I need to replace the burgundy colored outer bag due to wear. Do you know of any for sale?

Thanks for your very helpful reply. I am awaiting arrival of the 1990 Royal 9700.
