So it looks like one of these is in my future, perhaps soon. How old is this sucker?

The Diamond appeared the last part of 2003 to early 2004 and ran until I think 2007 or 08.

The Kirby Diamond Edition was released in October 2003 and reigned supreme until it was retired in 2006. The Kirby Sentria was released in July 2006. Hope this helps :)

Definitely, my favorite Kirby. I like the delicate switch and I prefer the old style handgrip over the new one.

Time will tell I suppose if it moves a block down the street! Or becomes a daily driver. If I still prefer the legend 2, quasi grandson may get the diamond

Kirby Diamond Edition...

a007kirbyman's profile picture
Hello David.

Harley is partially correct. And I agree with Rick on the Diamond's appearance being nice L@@King/appealing.

Production of the Diamond Edition Kirby was actually from November of 2003 thru April of 2006.

Our national distributor meeting was in the middle of November, 2003 in Dallas, TX. They (DE) were not available to order, & did not start being sold until after that time.

Production of the Sentria began in May of 2006, & were being sold before July.

I hope this clarifies things.

You are correct David, there are two speeds in the upright mode. There are two in hose mode as well; (three if you have the special variable speed suction/blower connector).

Thus the Diamond Edition can technically be five (5) speeds.

David, if you (or anyone) have further questions about this or other Kirby questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers & hagd/n all,

Bill

Thanks for the clarification a007kirbyman

I was going partially off memory and local availability.  I purchased my Ultimate G in December of 2003, and I know the Diamond was out in other areas right around that time.  It was 2007 or so when the door was knocked upon again, at that time they were pitching the Diamond.  Wichita Kirby must have been getting rid of old stock in both instances.

I know they did not have the Avilar until way after many on this site were discussing already having one.

All very cool folks! Its a very sweet 80 year old neighbor, she said she paid 1100 ten or so years ago, can't much pick it up anymore, she stores it in the garage. I said I felt it was prob worth 150, she said no, you can have it when I get another light vacuum. I have saved her biscuits a few times. Neighbors around here 30 years, most retired. at 59 I am the baby in the area.

Kirby Diamond Edition

dysonman1's profile picture
People who know me, know I'm not a fan of Kirby vacuums much. They're ok, but that's about all. However, Donnie brought this Diamond Edition home from a garage sale, and it was very clean. Well worth the $20 he paid. A little TLC, and it shined like new. Even the rear wheels are clean and undamaged. I actually prefer it over my terrible Sentria 2 that I can't seem to unload on anyone.

Over the course of a few weeks, I've grown to actually like and USE this Diamond Edition. For the area rugs, the low speed is awesome. The transmission is very smooth, smoother than the Sentria 2. I love the straight handle, it feels more 'self propelled' than the Sentria 2.

All in all, I'm keeping the Diamond Edition at home for a 'quick once-over' of the carpets. It cleans a LOT of the rug at once, does a very good job (HEPA cloth bags), and doesn't suck up my area and throw rugs. This one is a keeper for me. I can't believe I'm saying that about any Kirby, but this particular one, I'm very fond of.

I agree with you 100%. I hate the handgrip on my sentria 2. The diamonds handle is so much more comfortable to hold. My diamond actually feels more self propelled than my sentrias also.

Out of the G series. I own a G3, Diamond Edition, and Sentria. I would have to pick the Diamond Edition as my favorite as well. I love the low speed and there is something about that bag pattern that is very stylish to me. I think you will be very happy to add it to your collection.

Again, she said she paid 11 or 12 hundred, so probably just the upright I am guessing, or does the hose and stuff come with no matter? Its not a big house and she is 80 this year, so probably low miles. One small dog. Downstairs in the garage its giving her issues, very very dusty there too , made me sad to see that, wanted to polish it.

Sure hope you get your Kirby Diamond soon David, and yes Kirby's are usually sold with  the attachment kit which comes in what's called the tool caddy which you can hang on a wall or leave stand alone.

11 or 12 hundred ?   OMG

That can buy quite a few vacuums from Goodwill or Craigs.

She also has a canister of some sort, so may not even use the tools, IF she has them. Guessing I could take her shopping for her lightweight bagless she wants and get it very soon. May do that.

Well, neighbor called, she is ready to get a new vacuum, would I take her and help her get it home. She countered, you said it was worth $100, can you give me that for it? I don't have enough to replace it if not. I said sure, it looked fine to me, she says she has all the tools, never used. Nice knowing the house it lived in 10 years is clean and no smells. Progress soon I suppose and just in time, the little one above may be wanting " his" Kirby soon. House purchase this month.

Well, its home now, 2 hour wiping and cleaning, needs a polish of course, it sat in the garage! Runs like new. NO tools at all, not even a hose! Poop!!! I may have to look for those. I always wanted a Diamond and it cleans well, guess I am just used to the other one, it feels foreign at the moment. It had a torn cord holder by motor, super glued! and paper bag, nope! Sprayed and rinsed hose and outer bag, there was a bit of dog smell. My cat is giving it the evil eye even after that. Brush seems fine, belt too. No dings in the cord, no dents, just some oxidation.Missing a rear hub cap, bet I can find that. May polish soon, when I determine which one I want to keep! One semi glamour shot after cleaning.Dust was falling off of it, hair too.

Work in progress! Turning out very nice, minor oxidation, no wear. Thought the handle had scratches, the protective plastic was still on! That came right off.

David, Glad to see you finally got your Kirby Diamond. It looks great in the photos. I hope it gives you many years of trouble free service. I have a Sentria and I love it. It's a great Deep Cleaning machine.

Love my Ultimate G Diamond

charleskirby66's profile picture

It really is a nifty machine.  I got mine at a vacuum shop that was closing and relocating stock to Utah.  I   ended up buying the Diamond and got 12 bags, 9 belts, 2 big bottles of shampoo and standard accessories that did not match.  Eventually, I got all the matching accessories for it, except for a Handi-Butler (not even sure if Kirby made a Handi-Butler for the Ultimate G series).  This is probably my most-complete and original Kirby.

I haven't used it to vacuum in a while, as I've been running my Heritage II as a daily driver and letting the Diamond get a well-deserved vacation until the Heritage II bag is full.  I do use the Carpet Shampoo System monthly though.  I'm pretty sure my Diamond will be back in vacuum rotation again soon!

Great find

You will love the Diamond.

I have the model older, the UG.  I traded my Tradition for the UG, I know I still kick myself.  I had just had a car wreck and fractured my sternum.  They had me at Tech-drive.
