It's finally arrived, almost a month after I paid for it! It was delayed, because after the seller had dispatched it, it was found to be too big for transatlantic shipping limits, and was returned to the sender. She repackaged it, and now I have the main cleaner and the tools, and the tool-box is still en-route, costing me an extra $28 shipping.

It's not as nice as the example Michael restored recently, but it's shined up ok. Sorry the photos aren't that good, I haven't had the time to take proper ones:

The left side of the nozzle seems to have been pushed under furniture a lot, and is quite deeply scratched. It hasn't polished up as nicely as the right side yet. Needs more attention!

Is it me or is something missing?

Looks like there should be something else on the ends of the brush-roll caps...is this the case? If so, I'll email the seller and find out where they've gone!

The suction's incredible!

The cleaner's quite loud - doesn't sound like anything's wrong, though, seems like it's just a loud cleaner. The suction can lift the heavy carpet right off the floor! I like the height adjustment, too, seems quite easy and simple to use.

Does anyone know when it was made? I think Michael (or Jeff...or Jeff using Michael's account...or vice-versa!) said between 1947-49??

Jack, Jack, Jack....

Nice GE, Michael will love that! Yours looks very similar to his, save for the brown bag.
That is a late 40's model.
You're right about the brush roller too, there should be some little rubber caps on the ends, to compensate for brush wear.
I smile at your "loud" comment. It is a very unusual sounding cleaner!

nice machine Jack.......looking good! i'm glad you finally got it!!! i don't think that mine is any louder than other vacs.... it just has a different tone to it than what i'm use to. if i can think of it i'll take some pics of my brush roll so you can see it.
