Hi,
I am just an ordinary husband who might have either cocked up himself terribly, or just been ripped off by an electrical factor.
The motor went on my wife's Automatic X4 so after finding one on eBay to make sure it was the right replacement motor, I rang them up to confirm it was the correct one and paid by debit card over the phone. When it arrived, it was different to the original, so I took it into the shop (which was luckily only 30 minutes away) to re-check. I was assured by the man in the shop that it was correct even though it was about 10mm shorter in overall length and had the wrong sized pulley on it (model no.5212). I was told that I just had to swop the pulleys and it would fit and operate successfully. This I did but the vacuum cleaner is now gutless and has much less suction than before. I emailed the shop and they told me that I could upgrade the power of this motor to match the original just by "changing a wire over or something". He didn't actually know himself.
Is all this just BS or have I done something wrong...other than not trusting in my own instincts?
Thanks all.
Have they sold me the wrong motor and are now trying to evade any comeback?

Did the purchase go through EBay or privately?
Sounds like they have sold you the wrong motor.

Tell them its not the correct motor and you want a refund.

I bought privately via the shop with a debit card. I have since rung Sebo who told me that there are no longer motors avaialble with the same power as the original since a change in EU legislation last year??

The limit is still 1600w until 2017 when it goes down to 900w. The latest Sebos are 1100w down from 1300w so there shouldn't be any noticeable difference in power.
But I'm sure there will still be 1300w motors available on eBay.

I'm going to take both motors back to the shop, ask for a refund for the new one and leave the other with them so that they can find the right one (1100W or 1300W) this time. I think this is reasonable but can you see any way where they can wriggle out of this? The wife has run the new motor for about 5-10 minutes - will there be an issue here?

If they have supplied the wrong motor they have to replace it or give you a refund. Don't let them fob you off :-)
