There's thrift store I don't go to all that often, in North East Minneapolis... It's a bit out of the way. I usually go after I get a haircut, as that's in the general vicinity of this thrift sore. I haven't ever really found much when I've gone, but today I spotted a bag from across the store as I was walking towards the vacuums. I thought "you've got to be kidding me", and picked up the pace.

So many things ran through my mind as I was approaching... "Maybe it's just a bag on a different machine, it's probably in terrible shape", etc...

But when I got up to it, I couldn't believe my eyes. I was nearly trembling I was so excited.

A Hoover model 150.
With its original bag.
With a perfect rubber handle grip.

There wasn't a price on it, so they priced it for $20 at the register.

I'm still absolutely in disbelief that this was just sitting there, almost as if it was waiting for me to find it.

I'll let the pictures do the talking... There will be more to come as I send it through the spa!

Also, a shout out to the collector I met while walking through the store. I know you read these forums per our lovely conversation.. I quite enjoyed meeting you today! Also, thanks for not purchasing this machine the past few weeks, as you mentioned it had been sitting there for quite some time.

Older machines are becoming more and more scarce in my area, but I'd have to say my best thrift shop find was my Kirby 516 with all the boxes, attachments, paperwork etc. I'm sure that Hoover will clean up very well!

Nice find !! I bet everyone knows that feeling, I sure do, of seeing something in the distance and hoping and praying it is what you think it is..

Looks like a nice store too... but I can't quite see the red West Bend electric wok. There's gotta be one in there.. has to be, it's thrift store law.

Excellent Find Fred!

I agree, that has to be the thrift store find of a lifetime! Just finding a 150 at a thrift is unusual, but to find one with the original bag in great shape and no damage to the handle grip is outstanding! I'm sure it will be even more beautiful after you give it a nice spa treatment. Congratulations!
Jeff

Don't you love the emotional roller coaster.
You enter the store and suddenly, your aware of your heart beating. Then a rush of emotions over take you..... with the outcome UNKNOWN.

I mean, its not like going to the grocery store where you pretty much know the routine and what you'll be leaving with.

I think one always remembers a rush, like this. You remember the store, and everytime you go back, you hope to have a similar experience. As time goes by though, you realize the sheer randomness of this experience.

I still remember finding one of my first treasured vacuum cleaners in 1986. It was at the Goodwill store near 91st and Mill Rd. in Milwaukee. A mid 70s Sears Best canister. I hadn't been there in probably 10 years, but on a recent visit, went right back to the area I found that vac, so many years ago.

Thanks everyone! I got it initially wiped down, bag cleaned out, headlight changed and a genuine Hoover replacement plug on it.. The bag strap is missing, hence the white string, I think I have an extra handle that I can use for parts to repair it and have it working again. Can't wait to fully tear it apart!

It was nice meeting you Fred

I'm certainly glad you got to take this one home. I actually think that 150 was sitting there for nearly a month. I went back and forth on buying it because it matches my house, but I couldn't justify another project.

I even took pics of it in January when it apparently had it's price tag lol.

Im glad you'll be able to give it a great home, and kind of want to see it in action so I can kick myself for not grabbing it nearly a month ago!

Giuseppe

You left the vintage green Kenmore powermate behind? Was it in rough shape?

That Kenmore

I don't think it was there yesterday, I can check for you guys.

There was also a Riccar there, but I believe it was a non U.S. made one, which seemed odd to me.

Vacuumlad, Kenmore

It's a mid 1970's Sears Best 2 speed powermate.

Funny someone mentioned finding a 70s Sears Best Powermate at a thrift store and one just happens to photobomb the Hoover picture. That must be a GOOD thrift store! I've had nice finds but that would be a thrift find of a lifetime for me. Congrats.

Have two?

That still dirty one doesn't have a two speed motor, or a full bag indicator.
it's missing the tool comp. lid.

Congratulations Fred, That is one beautiful vacuum! I've owned a couple of those in the past, but never one as nice or with it's original bag. That little vacuum just seemed to be waiting for you to find it!

If it was there for the better part of a month, at a store he doesn't frequent, we just know there is some special Fred energy he has.

E.S.P perhaps.
