So hi there
In a few days time I may be getting a Hoover junior 375. It's on eBay as spares or repairs but just needs a cable. Can any one give me information about these and tell me when they was made. Also the seller has some cleaning tools for sale, so if you can show me what are the right cleaning tools, that would be helpful to!
Thank you
Daniel 👍🏻

Hi Daniel,

Some of the guys on here will be able to give you more info than I can, but to get the ball rolliing, here's some info.

The 370 and 375 were the first official "Junior" uprights and are widely regarded as the first "affordable" upright. They marked the first step towards more reasonably priced and reasonably sized vacuums, especially on the British market.

The 375 was the second style, launched in 1935 and ran right up until 1949 when it was superceded by the 119.

Hope this helps.
Chris

Hi Chris (turbo500) thanks for the information about this particular vacuum. TBH I am not a specialist on Hoover vacuums but I am more so on numatic (as you may know).

Daniel

Of course, everyone has their specialist area :).
I'm more knowledgable on 70's -90's, but these Juniors always left an impression on me as their launch marks the start of the vacuum being a normal sight in British homes.

Back when the 375 came out, a vacuum was *the* in thing to have. Like an iPhone or certain pair of shoes is today. It was a status symbol. If you had a vacuum, it meant you were very high society and not short of money. The 370 & 375 marked the start of vacuums becoming more afford ace and more popular.

Thanks turbo500

My specialist kind of machine is 70s to early 2000s and I also like commercial tubs

If you had a vacuum cleaner back then, the increase in status was two-fold - one, as has been said, you could afford a vacuum cleaner (or more likely were able to afford the repayments on a vacuum cleaner), and two, you had something worth cleaning. Carpets were scarce and very expensive. If you could afford one you bought what you could get - size, colour, and pattern didn't often come into the deal.
