A couple of days ago I received an email from Kirby. The sender read The Kirby, and the subject line was Shampoo your carpets. I opened it, and it showed an Avalir set up as a shampooer working away. It was their website promoting their shampoo products and there were a couple of places you could tab on asking to schedule a demo. Anyone else get one of these?

I did, but I already have the Avalir and Shampoo System, bought from an Authorized Kirby Dealer. I used the shampooer soon after I got it. Did a great job on my carpets and the tray the excess foam goes into lifts off and has a lid to prevent spills. Easy to rinse and put back on.

You could set up a demo if you want but you'll have to prepare to trade one or two of your Kirbys to the dealer for a huge discount if you do buy it.

I'm not a fan of the G series, have over 20 Kirbys, just one of the self-propelled. I was just curious if anyone else had received this email. Just coincidental I guess that it was sent to a collector, that must be a new marketing approach but wonder what email address base they use. I toured the factory a few years ago, but don't remember filling anything out with my information.

Kirby slaes pitch cont.

Yes, and realtors are one of Kirby's sources for phone numbers.
Shortly after buying my house, I received a call from a gal named "Comfort".
She offered to come and clean my carpets with a Kirby. I simply asked her to call back in a couple of years or so because I needed to replace all the carpets.
There are also Kirby distributors who tell perspectives that they have the lowest price, then bait and switch them and their mark up is higher than another direct sellers.

I got the same email but that is only because I signed up to receive their newsletters. About a month ago I got an email promoting the purchasing of replacement parts - bags, belts, etc.

I got it also

I did sign up for the newsletter with Kirby so it is a usual appearance.

Home shows, mailings, and emails are how our local Kirby Company gets their leads as they have not ran a Door to door campaign  in our area since 2009.

And I also signed up on kirby.com for the Newsletter.  Not too surprised to have gotten it.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if Kirby offered some perks, gifts, etc. to those who were generous enough to give their contact information?

I guess that's asking for far too much.

I can't imagine paying $1000 for a vacuum; I sell Kirby G series all the time for ~$100. I don't bother putting them on eBay because they go for so little; if I wanted one, that's were I'd turn.

You can get them online, at thrift stores, and on Craigslist without the expense and hassle of dealers. Yes theres no warranty, but you could buy 10-15 of my G's for one new, basically identical, Kirby. Use the left over money to get a REAL wet 'steamvac,' even the cheapest of which which does infinitely better actually washing (and rinsing!) than Kirby's complicated shampooer. My in laws "shampoo" with their kirby; I bought them a basic Hoover Spinscrub Steamvac ($115) and where the kirby had gone was coming out brown and soupy in the Hoover.

I have two on Craigslist right now, for 60 and 120, and the one for 120 is mint and perfect. Its probably the same in most places.
