I was looking at my local pawn shop, which generally carries alot of sweepers, all of which I've had good luck finding the ones I have now there. I've had my eye on this LG Kompressor upright, wanted one since it came out. I finally went to check it out, and I had to pass. It looked like someone had sucked up wet mud with it and some filters were possibly missing, so who knows all where the mud is inside of it. For almost $100, it better work pretty darn well, and I just don't trust it with it having mud plastered in all diffirent crevices. Oh well :/

Actually, after that I went to goodwill, and they had sold a Eureka that I looked at getting too. I was like, well crap. So a friend got ahold of me and wanted to hang out, so while I was waiting for him to get ready to meet me I decided to go to one last place. And to my surprise they had a hoover futura! $25. Needs some love and cleaning but it works! Put it on layaway, might as well wait for taxes to come in to pay for it instead of spending my paycheck, am I right? Lol.

Yep! That's a real nice Hoover for that price!!
Next hunt for a Dimension 1000 canister to compliment it.???? Last dual fan motor machine Hoover made. A 9.5 amp draw with as much suction as a single fan 12 amp.
The green Windtunnel canister is also nice. Similar to your new grey one, but with an updated power nozzle.

"....Dimension 1000 canister ...... green Windtunnel canister"

Do You mean, like this?

Something where both models have finger-tip variable speed control, where the motors and computer work fine?

They are in the Milwaukee area.

Both include hoses, though only one is shown. The hose on the Dimension is crushed in a few areas, but still works.
One has all attachments. No Pns. Was planning to put these on Ebay.

I'm glad you like it! From what I can tell, it seems to be a bit of an odd ball hoover maybe? There are just a couple tiny videos on youtube about it and that's it, so I'm assumeing it's not a mainstream one.

oh, but they were quite mainstream. Maybe more in a maroon color though.
A step up from the top of the line Spirit power nozzle canister model.

Ah! Interesting to hear. So did not many of them survive or has other things come along to push them away from the lime light? Or am I just missing something lol?

limelight

icee, yes, that thing that came along was China.
While you were still eating babyfood I suspect. I think the maroon ones were labeled Dura-max, not Futura, and the final version wind tunnel.
In about the year 2000, Hoover closed the factory in Canton Ohio. The first new owner of the Hoover name was Maytag, but Whirlpool bought Maytag after that, and Hoover was sold to TTI floor care, which also owns Dirt Devil, and now Oreck and Fuller Brush brands.
The British art deco Hoover LTD. plant in west London has been converted to a Tesco super store, and there is also a Pakistani restaurant and banquet facility.

P.S. limelight

ice, the final bagged Hoover canister was the 25th. anniversary edition in silver.
It resembled a Miele S6 canister, but was not a great sales success as buyers expected Miele quality at the $300 dollar price point.

The Fuller Brush brand is NOT owned by TTI. It is owned by Tacony Corporation (Simplicity, Riccar, and Maytag vacuum brands as well).

The Canton Ohio plant was not closed until about 2007 if I remeber correctly.

ok, really? At any rate, Fuller Brush machines are also lower end ones form China.
The last one I saw in a shop looked identical to an Oreck.
icee, Hoover had a compact canister called the Duros for about $160.

ok danxx94

My bad. Seems longer already.
Isn't it special how companies divvy up markets and deceive and manipulate consumers so we do not know what or who we buy from?
Maybe I'm just old school, but in my business I knew most of my customers until I was promoted to district manager. After that, my individual store managers knew them still.
The fallout also hit us in 2007. We lost all of our 85 store food chain from the automotive decline trickle down.
The next year, it hit my spouse. We are both degreed professionals.
We could not sell the house for any more than a serious loss, and we had been here 13 years already. So no, we did not flee the state like many did.
I could not believe it. It was like Pittsburgh in the 80's all over again.
Then General Motors filed bankruptcy, then the banks.
An over 200 Billion dollar tarp rescue program. None for us though.
My next job paid me 35% less, not counting lost insurance and benefits. After a 31 year career. I know we are not the only ones either.
We had two in college by then as well.
We survived. No vacations, no newer cars, sold some things. Didn't file bankrupt though, but I could have.
5 more payments, and no more mortgage. Maui time. No, just happy time again.
Maybe put some away for retirement now.

Which Hoover Models weren't Mainstream????

durango159's profile picture
One thing that is EXTREMELY important to remember about Hoover is that they sell in just about every store that has a vacuum cleaner display. So in-order to help marketing and give some diversity between models found at Store A and Store B that might be directly across the street or a mile down the road, they had various model names, designs, and colors.

The Hoover PowerMax Deluxe series is a great example. The PowerMax Deluxe series was on the market from the late 90's to early 2000's. Here's the scoop of them:
S3601- Tan colored-- usually Strawbridges, Brickstone (Canada store), online vendors-- This is Picture #1 below. I refurbed and sold this machine back in 2012.
S3607- Burgundy Deep Wine colored-- usually vacuum stores, BJ's Wholesale Club
S3608- Red colored with translucent bag lid -- Lowe's Hardware
S3606- Navy blue with translucent bag door-- National Wholesale Liquidators, online, vac stores
S3612 (Turbo Power 5000)-- same features as all above but with newer generation Turbo Power stickers and decals and 2 year warranty-- Macy's, vacuum stores.

So Dimension 1000's were in the 1980's, they had various units. The TOL models had the gas pump handle grip with variable speed, while others like mine below had a more standard handle gip with suction regulator valve on the hose handle. All Dimension 1000 units had the Full width Quadraflex PowerMatic nozzle with headlight, dual brushed edge cleaning, and brush roll on/off foot pedal that keeps the headlight still running.

The Dimension 900 was the suction body style of the Dimension 1000 but with an opaque attachment door slightly less powerful motor and it was the lesser of the two versions of Quadraflex Powermatic that had no headlight and the belt pulley was on the end of the brush roll-- no brushed edge cleaning on belt side, no brush roll on/off.

Then emerged the Spectrum. This was the initiation of the Futura body style. Some Spectrums had a 12" Futura nozzle but most had the headlight equipped 13.5" Quadraflex Powermatic nozzle. From here the Dimension 1000 eventually phased out of production.

Supremacy-- an upscale line with 2 year warranty in gorgeous burgundy color only available to Authorized Vacuum Stores. Along with a few Dimension 1000 styled Supremacy branded units there was also a Decade 800 styled upright and a Ranger base styled upright and a Spirit styled canister.

The Futura came out!! Futura, Futura 350, 450, 550, Supreme etc. Some were straight suction, some had a single row, non headlight equipped brush roll with plastic wands. Some had cord winders, some had wrap storage and the on/off pedal and would be cord rewind button would swivel to hold the cord. Some had aluminum wands, some had shiny chrome wands, some had the headlight equipped 2 brush power nozzle such as Futura Supreme S3569 which had a 9.8 Amp motor and featured Hoover Cleaning Effectiveness Per Amp rating of 11.0. This brand name was in production for many years, many different models!!

PowerMax line up came out with the PowerMax lower profile power nozzle hood. This very sleek head actually ran a little quieter usually than the Futura hood due to different positioning of the cooling ducts. They started with a 3 prong T shaped plug that you could turn the brush roll off at the gas pump style hose and still have the headlight running while doing bare floors. Then some later models, the brush roll on/off disappeared but it was still a T shaped plug with 2 prongs going into a gas pump style hose with no controls.

The Windtunnel line came out I believe in 1998?? Someone can correct me for the actual it may be 1999??? The first time I saw them was at Sears. Many many stores got a hold of the entry level Windtunnel machine. It was the same shade of green as the PowerMax Supreme S3611 that is in the picture above. This canister was featured in many magazine advertisements. They sported the new 12 Amp motor, Windtunnel power nozzle and all had covered on board tool storage and brush roll on/ off. From there more models were added such as the Plus S3639. The TOL was the Ultra S3655.

Turbo Power series-- 2 year warranty machines sold primarily in vacuum stores but some department stores like Sears, Macys, Boscovs and Strawbridges had certain models as well. There were various generations of the Turbo Power line as various machines were changed. The Turbo Power 5000 had at least 2 variations as model number S3577 and then a different platform based unit years later reincarnated with model number S3612.

Anniversary Windtunnel canister celebrated 100th Hoover Anniversary!! 25th is wrong!! Model number for that unit is S3670 it was gray in color. The hose is a horrible horrible material and it's the same hose found on the Oreck Quest Pro power team. Which at that time Oreck was not yet part of TTI.

The Hoover Duros to me is not even worthy of the Hoover name!!! I think it was China made or possibly by LG for Hoover. It later became the Maytag Legacy that Home Depot primarily sold that line up of Hoover branded machines being called Maytag. Nothing wrong with that because Maytag was the corporate owner of Hoover from 1989 I believe until 2007. Far far different line of the circle from other Hoover canisters, all different parts!!!

I could go on and on and on. Ask any questions that you have. I will be more than happy to spread my knowledge and passion for them.

Enjoy the photos. All of these machines have been owned at some point by me or my family!!! None of these are Googled!!! Some have been gifted, some have been refurbed and resold, some I still own, some are at my parents house. The first one that my family ever purchased was the gorgeous navy blue PowerMax model S3603-040 for $200 from BJ's Wholesale Club on September 26, 1997. That machine still runs flawlessly today and is at my parents house. But I was generously gifted another off of eBay from another collector and it's in some photos below.

Non-Mainstream Royal Metal Uprights

kirbyclassiciii's profile picture
Royal had also made non-mainstream metal upright vacuum cleaners for sale to its various dealerships over the years.

Among them, is the Stark Deluxe 5000NA. What is Stark? It refers to Portland, OR-based Stark's Vacuum Cleaners. This cleaner has a gray bag and black trim, but is otherwise a Royal model 889 (1987-88) or 9000 (1988-90).

List of non-mainstream Royal uprights:
Model 901 (Stark's Vacuum; variation of Royal 8000; gray bag/black trim)
Model 5000NA (Stark's Vacuum; variation of Royal 889/9000; gray bag/black trim)
Model 5700 (Stark's Vacuum; variation of Royal 9700; mauve or burgundy bag/burgundy trim)

Rob, thanks for the explanation. It seems several are mainstream at your place. But those are the good ole' ones. Newer Hoovers? No thanks. Not a fan.
Dysonman, Missy Mae is just adorable.
I'm almost ready for another dog, but smaller than our Rottie Bubba was.

Do you know what they called this PN? I have one like it in green. I wasn't too happy about it's design, but It seems to clean good.

The Hoover Duros was made by Sanyo, and was sold under the Sanyo name for many years before the company was sold to Panasonic. It was made in Japan and was actually a very good cleaner with a decent power nozzle modelled after the Eureka Express power nozzle.
