Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I only have a handful of classic vacuums since my collection was depleted years ago because of poor storage.
The one piece I would really like to replace is the Hoover Junior 1224 - preferably with the grey cloth bag.
I drool with envy when I see the photos of those that you own on here!
If you have a spare you'd like to sell, or know a good source in the UK for them - please let me know.
I'm based in Surrey/Sussex/London area
Ta!

Hi Ian,

Welcome aboard! I can't help you with the 1224 I'm afraid, but good luck and I hope you enjoy the forum :)

Chris

Hoover 1224

Hi, I have a 1224, it's not in brilliant condition, the blue trim needs to be reattached as it's split where the bolt holds it onto the cleaner head, the paint work is a bit scratchy but it's never been resprayed and has it's original colour, while the bag is grey and cloth it's non-original, but it looks okay. It also needs a new bottom motor plate, but you could easily find one on a more common 119, which you could use for parts. Also the cords been replaced with standard orange. It does have the original blue handle grip, they often get replaced with white ones. As a collector I know what it's like to have a particular vacuum of interest; mines the Kirby Classic Omega in 240 volts (which I may have managed to track down!) What current Vacuums do you have? Would you swap one for the 1224?

Hi, thank you for taking the trouble to respond to my thread. Thanks also for the offer of a swap with your 1224 but I think I'll hold out for one in nearer-original condition (though I know they're hard to come by!) I WISH I hadn't stored the one I had in a damp shed for years - it was fully original and working until I ruined it; it had been my grandparents' and used to terrify me as a child.
Your Kirby looks great - I have only a small collection now, but I do still have my 30s Junior and a very smooth-running 1940s 612.

Thank you! It is a pain finding a 1224 in decent condition, I'm sure you'll find one eventually, I'm still holding out for some of my dream vacuums, such as a Hoover u4003, Hoover Concept One Powerdrive, any Turbomaster and a Hoover Convertible (Dial-a-matic)

Thank you Turbo500. It's not too bad - and the tools are great. I've made an initial bid and will see what happens...

I won it - let's see what it's like, eh. I think it'll need a spruce up and the bag's not original. Hmmm - they are rare though.. Should arrive in a week or so :)
Thanks for letting me know about it again.

There is another one just come up might be worth going for to make one good from two and the bag, although not original, has a more authentic air about it. Its in Bracknell, collection only

Hi Vacbear58,
Thank you! I've put a bid in for that one too - you're right; the bag - though not original - is a more authentic shape, and has the non-folded-in seam along the front and the more rounded back. I must be mad - going from no 1224s to two (there's a tatty one for sale on Preloved too...). I'll probably end up doing a 'cut and shut' to make one good one.
The other 1224 I 'won' on ebay arrived today, and after unpacking it and assembling it I switched it on and.. it runs beautifully - and then it 'hoovered' up the debris from the packaging very efficiently. The warm drone and deep thrumming sound of the 1224 took me right back to my childhood - when I was terrified of my grandparents' 1224!
(my close friends totally get my 'thing' with vacs - which is why I love 'em)

I have another one for you to add to the cleaner you have got. Of course its not original, thats rubbish, its been repainted. The bag might be of some use to you but its the tools that will be the main interest as they are the tools for the 1224. Its in Leatherhead so close enough to pick up if you have transport and save the delivery cost.

Al

Thanks Vacbear58 and hooverjedilord for the links. I am going to cut and shut a good 'original' out of two that I've sourced and I've bid on the (dreadful) paint-job one for the tools - I need that blue hose!
Cheers folks :)
