Hi All,

I like probably most on this forum have an affinity for vacuum cleaners.. Well, most appliances in general. On the vacuum side, growing up we had Kenmores, an Electrolux Discovery II, then a Vacuflo central that I installed for the parents. After moving out I picked up a Lindhaus Healthcare Pro, then a Miele Flamenco, Aluminum, Blue Moon, Aquarius, moved and put in an Imperium into the house. Moved again and picked up an eBay Silver Moon in very good condition.

So this brings me to the present.. I was contemplating putting a central vac in my current house - I like the Silver Moon but I had to get a replacement hose for it and the new design doesn't swivel at the handle.. Which makes the hose kink all of the time and drives me crazy. I was talking to one of my friends at work who wanted a new Miele.. I told him everything I knew and he set out for the local vac shop. He wound up picking up a new C3 Marin.. Which I thought was a good choice for him. We talked about the UniQ/Brilliant and how it was very nice, but had a lot of features that weren't really necessary (although nice) and didn't really warrant the extra $ in the long run.

When I came home from work that day after our vac discussion I just happened to pop on eBAY and did a quick search on Miele sorted by newly listed. What popped up? This Miele UniQ, not even 1.5 years old and in absolutely perfect condition.. For a BIN price of $450 or best offer. I did a super quick (15 second) scan of the pictures and the description - I figured it would go quickly so I knew that I had to be fast. Clicked BIN and they emailed me a few hours later saying they dropped it off for shipping (I'm in PA, it was in NY). 2 days later it was on my doorstep. I unboxed it wondering if it was going to scratched, etc. To my pleasant surprise, no scratches, even the bottom body of the vac was perfect. I still can't believe it. They even included a box of bags. The HEPA filter indicator has barely moved.. I don't know if this was purchased and sat in a closet or what, but I'm not complaining!

Cool. I think you made a good choice. You can easily buy 5 vacuums for $90/each, or even 10 vacuums for $45/each, and still not end up with something you really want to use.
If that's where you are at, you saved yourself a lot of trouble.

Oh heck yes! I also Love the Miele's. Even more than day trip to Holland or Saugatuck!
I'd even have a C3 Marin, or Kona if not the Brilliant. I almost caved in and bought the C3 limited edition in British racing green, but it only has a turbo nozzle, and you can not upgrade to an electric one.
Why is the Alize the only model still with the sprung caster suspension, and why do these machines sell for half again as much as in Europe? Surely it does not cost that much install the voltage rectifier so they run on 120 volts.

Michael,

You may try Craigs list, or local vacuum shops, but Miele has their parts network tightly sewn up so it's dealers all have set prices for the most part, and only new parts.
I know of a store (from craigs list) called Arbor Vacuum, in Ann Arbor MI., and Chelsea Mi. where Jeff Daniels is from and his Purple Rose theatre is, that sells reconditioned vac's of all makes including Miele. Call or e-mail them.
They may have a lid from a parted out S5. You can always paint it with a good spray paint for plastic, such as Rustoleum gloss primer/paint if you can match the color.
Or, you can go to a pianters supply and have them custom mix it for you, and an auto body shop should be graceious enough to spray it? My friend did that with his Pontiac Trans Am front bumper license plate bird design insert. It was missing when he bought it because it was an Ohio car which required front plates still.

Oh, Michael,

I forgot! If all else fails, I use a two part putty epoxy called Miliput.
Hobby Lobby carries it.
It is non toxic, from England, but has a poison ornage X on it, so I don't know if California allowes it?
You can mail order it on Amazon though for $13. Hobby Lobby price is $8.
You knead together equal parts of the putty until it is one homogenous color, then mold it to the required shapes.
It has a long working time.
After it dries, it is not only sandable and paintable, but also sawable, and does not shrink.
Another alternative may be "Green Squadron Putty'.
