Hey everyone, here is an interesting article about Domel and Ametek motors, and it could make for some interesting discussion. Of course, the motor is only one of many things to consider when purchasing a vacuum, and Ametek seems to dominate the motor market at this point, but this article seems to favor the Domel motors, wondering what everyone else thinks.

Interesting article, but VCP International is now out of business.

"VCP International is proud to announce that it has won the rights to be Domel's soul source for distribution in the United States."

Take a look at where the Ametek motors are made now.

this comes straight from their website:

motors

The article was mainly focused on central vacuums, Ametek motors are still used for many of those, though some companies like Drainvac use the domel motors now I think. I think Sebo also uses Domel motors, at least in their uprights. My perfect backpack uses am Ametek motor, and I'm pretty sure my Pro-team backpack uses a motor made by Domel. I would say the Ametek motors are definitely more well known.

For most vacs these days, and for quite a while now,
It seems like it doesn't matter much what shape, brand, age, or dust containment style vac. you have, they're all powered by basically an interchangeable motor.

The only physical difference in motors is: upright with shaft for belt, or canister without shaft.

As for VCP closing down, that probably doesn't mean much. Investors will use corporate structures to hold patents and product, then sell them off to another corporate structure, create gains and losses that in and of themselves are assets. Meanwhile, the products continue on simply in another corporate structure (under another name).
