Mid 2014 I completed restoration of a Kirby 509, so I thought. A couple of months ago I found and installed a new motor that sounds and runs like new and an original metal brush roll. Then I found some original rubber wheels in good shape and replaced the new black plastic ones. Last night I installed a new replica bag in place of the new black one from Kirby. Did this model originally have washers on the wheels? If so I will add them and I think it's really done!

Mike,

That's very impressive! I just recently had my 1977 Kirby Classic III's motor bearings replaced, and now it also has a new belt lifter label and lens!

Beautiful!! No washers on the wheels. I'm pretty sure that ended with the C/R models. Some of the washers were painted red.

I don't know about the 509, but both of my 505s had washers on the (original) wheels. I believe my 508 did too but I can't remember for sure.

Hi Mike.

You've got a great Kirby 509. Don't get finger prints on the nicely polished aluminiumwink

Yeah the 505s and most 508s had washers on the wheels still.

Thanks Ben. Your Classic III looks great! I need to replace my belt lifter lens and trim some time.

Mike
