That machine was rebuilt by Metropolitan Vacuum Company at some point in the 70's or early 80's. They always painted the side rails, and added the very cheap plastic tools. They almost ALWAYS disabled the ejector, as they supplied one-ply bags with the machine that clogged within moments. They usually disabled the ejector by removing the sensor tube that leads from the automatic control to the tiny opening in the side of the bag intake/hose coupling.
Glad you got it working again. The wheel behind the automatic control is NOT original to that machine, and shouldn't be there. The rear wheels were 'add ons' by a salesman later on - and are not original to that machine either. Just FYI Nice cleaner/glad you got it. | ||

Tom, that is indeed a Metro rebuild! it was done in 1983. i have the paperwork somewhere. The small line was missing, and the bar on the diaphragm was disconnected from the release leaver. I added the wheels myself as we have expensive hardwood floors (other than in my shop and bedroom) and mother is afraid i will scratch them. Here are pictures I took a few months back when Ray (BikerRay) helped me fix everything, I only just yesterday bought the line I used Thanks! Andy Rousonelos | ||

I might as well add in some pictures of my LXs and LXI that I have
The first three are an early LX without the control dial and with the plastic inserts The second three are a late LX with the plastic inserts on the side The third three are a late LX with the correct non insert sides (and yes I know the chrome is peeling on the metal and you can see the copper underneath) The forth set of three are of my LXI The final picture is of some of the attachments down thru the years from a model XI through the LXI. That front piece with the yellowing plastic is the Tufter insert for the rug nozzle. | ||

I'll be damn'ed! The one in front looks like the one used on older caompacts, and the back one does have a bit of an Electrolux look!

The front one is for an Electrolux Model 12 as well. Here are pictures from the 1932 Electrolux owners manual. I seem to remember seeing this tool with the Model XI as well.

Since no one has posted a picture yet, the FIRST Automatic Control dial was metal, not plastic. You had to pull OUT on the knob and turn it to the setting you wanted, where it would 'click' down into position. So many people act surprised that they've never seen this control before - well here it is. 1954. It was changed to the plastic knob for the model LXI (61) in 1955, as Electrolux was prepping the Automatic E (with plastic control dial) for launch during the very short run of the LXI.

 ~ I have two LXI models. One of them has the same ejection control knob as the one above.
They both have a redesigned rear cover that's the same shape and design as that of the E and EA but chrome-plated. (I also have an early Model E with the same chrome-plated rear cover.)
One has a cord halo and the other has a cord winder that is the newer flip-open style (as with E, EA and early F).
They both have a rear axle with wheels (not clip-on wheels) and a large front caster that makes it glide smoothly along the floor like a school bus.
You can see the metal ejection control knob in one of the photos below. | ||
