I was pricing Miele and SEBO vacuums in the UK and they are literally less than half the price as in the US )with exchange rate considered). Why is this? You can get a SEBO D4 Premium for a little over E340 in the UK yet it costs $900 in the US. I don't get it.

...because Americans are bred to be materialistic, money grubby fools.

There are people here, amongst us, who literally think that the more expensive something is, the better the quality must be compared to other similar products.

That's crazy.

The marketers of the Sebo and Miele products are just feeding into that market.

Speaking of ridiculous. There are tacky stainless steel side by side refrigerators listed at $8,000.00.

And apparently, there are baby boomers with money to burn, desperate to play classism games, that think they are somehow better if they purchase the crap. It makes me laugh.

Delaneymeegan, I agree with you. Just stinks for those of us who have common sense and want a good product.

Shrink1982 - Not sure which model you're looking for.

Maybe try doing a worldwide search on Ebay.
I've bought items from abroad and the shipping wasn't too bad. Took a little longer to get here, but, that's how it goes.

Here's one for only $34 shipping and quite reasonable for the vac, too.

Only thing is, make sure you clarify what the voltage is AND if it can easily be adapted to work here. Sometimes all you need is a simple plug adapter, other times it's a transformer set up.

Tolivac- You're no doubt correct.
It's like these ss appliances and other ugly stuff is just a way for some people to compete with others. lol. I have been in some of these houses/condos/apartments with the awful ss oversized appliances, dank paint colors, radioactive granite counters, etc. , and I was just, ...... I would puke if I had to live in that.
I've rented storage units that were more appealing.

Kirbysthebest- If by "Cynical" you mean, do I tell the truth and will happily chop away at ANY subject so people can see through the fog of b.s.?   YEP.   I enjoy kicking ass where an ass kicking is needed, and over due. laughing

Otherwise, the very definition is too filled with vagaries to really render a response. You'd need to be more specific.

EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS for a FRIDGE!?!? My fridge is integrated and only cost £300/$430.

My Miele washing machine was £599/$885 and by UK standards, that was expensive.

Its the same for us with American brands

To be fair though -ORECK uprights in the UK are over priced, so its not as if WE Brits are getting an American bargain.

U.S Dirt Devil stuff we get passed through as Vax products that are ALSO cheaper in the U.S as well as several Eureka vacs also badged as AEG or Zanussi.

Kitchenaid mixers are pretty popular worldwide. Yet the one listed on Amazon.com in red costs £134 equivalent to the $199 quoted at the American site.

In the UK the starter price is £299 - equivalent currently to $443-24

It is true that some models are over priced in the U.S but it should be worth mentioning not ALL SEBO vacs are $900.

Kirby vacuums cost 3800€ here in the Finland. Kirbys are sold by door to door salesmans so maybe you can get it a bit cheaper if you are very good negotiator.
That's insane!
In contrast Miele C2 Complete Ecoline cost 139€!

Yes Americans pay crazy money for their Vacs but if they are happy to pay it good luck to them.
I certainly wouldn't :-)
